Nothing on 765, 435, 535? Nothing on Mini, nothing on LF? Nothing on public feedback or general appreciation on release that explain why they are so popular. What a pointless video

In 1989, I took a course at the ARRI factory in Munich on Türkenstraße, where I learned to disassemble and reassemble the 16SR, ARRI 3, and BL4. I still have my certificate, and I’ll never forget watching live on TV on 9th November as the Wall was being demolished by protesters. After finishing my course, I took a train to Berlin and managed to bring back a small piece of the Wall with me. I’m very happy to see how ARRI has evolved to become the leader in the industry.

I just read a book about a BBC sponsored British expedition that travelled across Zanzibar and Tanganyika (now Tanzania) in a 3 person hydrogen balloon in the early 1960's featuring an Arriflex camera ( see A. Smith, "Throw out Two Hands", George Allen & Unwin, (1963) ). The appendix to the book mentioned the camera initially used 8-volt Varley batteries that proved 'spillable and heavy' until one of the cameramen improvised his own battery constructed of electronic flash unit cells, each with 3 floating balls to show the state of charge, embedded in foam rubber and encased in a small metal box that clipped onto the waistband of his trousers. The battery was chargeable from the Land Rover battery via a 12 volt stepdown built in series. They carried a range of 11 lenses for this camera: a 12.5mm Taylor Hobson lens; 40mm, 90 mm, 150mm, 300mm Kilfitt Kilar lenses; as well as 240mm and 400mm Novoflex lenses with follow-focus pistol grips. The film stock (courtesy of the BBC) consisted of 24, 000 feet of Eastman Plus-X 16 mm negative film in 100 foot rolls; 24, 000 feet of the same in 400 foot rolls; and 12, 000 feet of Eastman Tri-X 16mm negative film. The sound recording was done on a Ficord midget tape-recorder.

Now before they go to Arri VR and have us experience a movie in 360 dimensions, which would be badass, I hope they build a digital+film combo camera

What’s up with the random striped overlay??

Wrong! The first ARRI ALEXA was 2k not 4k. Quite famously in fact, as this allowed the use of larger photo sites on the censor leading to better color and dynamic range.

They had history on their side and they kept evolving. Only ARRI digital footage could come close to Film.

Isn't it pronounced "Arr-ree"? Not "Air-ree"?

I don't want to be nit-picky, but the pictures from Munich are from 1945–1950. In the First World War, there were no bombed-out cities (1917); in 1924, WW1 was over for 6 years.

In 1941, World War II was not yet fought on German soil, so a picture of bombed-out Munich is also incorrect. In a film with a historic topic, such gross mistakes make the rest of the statements appear questionable as well.

I’ve always called the company Arriflex. Never considering that’s just the camera..

I think Arri took a chance and moved forward with a new technology while others stayed stagnant. Just like Tesla was first to move forward with EVs.

Film and digital are totally different. But once what is best is established, no directors would want to settle for less than that title.

So much incorrect information. Just delete this video, do your research and then try again.

Outstanding history. Now all they need to do is make their cameras cheaper

Tchaikovsky was probably the worst background music you could have chosen. It completely destroyed your little movie.
