The fifth in a series of fourteen films to star Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the Twentieth Century's most iconic iteration of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively.

A British intelligence agent transporting secret documents to America realizes German spies are following him and slips a microfilm copy of the plans to unsuspecting socialite Nancy Partridge (Marjorie Lord). After the agent disappears, the British Home Office sends Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his partner, Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce), to Washington, D.C., to solve the mystery. When the agent is murdered, Holmes deduces Nancy's involvement and races against the Germans to find her.

Jeremy Brett was an outstanding Sherlock Holmes in very recent times - some have said that it was obsessive and effected his health. It's hard to find a better combination than Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson/

My word. I do say. Holmes turns into quite the little Karen inside the antique store showroom. I must say though, it works.
One cannot help but delight in the use of the words: fiddlesticks, chicanery and skullduggery is such rapid succession. Bravo!

Basil and Nigel are my absolute favourites as Holmes and Watson but...I am a little surprised when Holmes asked if he could look over her son's room. Even more surprised when she said yes of course.

Despite Basil’s dodgy hairdo, I love these old films. Been watching them since I was a child when BBC2 used to show them around 5pm. Even back then in the 80’s, times were different. Really enjoyable story with the great George Zucco as yet another baddie. Actress Marjorie Lord (Nancy) is the mother of lovely actress Anne Archer.
