The sixth in a series of fourteen films to star Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the Twentieth Century's most iconic iteration of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively.

Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) has donated his services to the Musgrave estate, a makeshift wartime hospital set up by three feuding siblings. When Watson's colleague Dr. Sexton (Arthur Margetson) is mysteriously attacked, he asks his friend Detective Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) to help with the investigation. Upon arrival, Holmes discovers that one of the estate's proprietors has been murdered, and clues lead him to suspect a bizarre Musgrave family ritual as the possible cause.

This feature is presented in restored high definition with no advertisement breaks, as it deserves to be seen.

Thanks for posting. Rathbone and Bruce are exceptional. "Then old days of grab and greed are on their way out" (1:69). I wish it was now so....

How is it possible that I am able to binge watch these movies over and over again?? there were many of the same cast in them but always playing different characters, with the exception of Lestrade.

It is almost as if seeing the same faces develops so much familiarity that I feel very at home and a closeness with them all? I can't quite understand why but I absolutely love these movies so much.

Voice of Terror and The Secret Weapon are two of my personal favourites in particular.

Thank you for these classic Sherlock Holmes movies ! And without the awful commercial interruptions every 5 minutes that plague other channels. I watch one of these comfortable movies every Sunday morning to get my head on straight for the rest of the week.

In the U.K, the season of repeats I remember most fondly was in the early 80s when BBC 2 used to show these on a Friday teatime. It must have been in the Autumn / Winter season as, in my memory, it was always dark outside whilst they were screening.

I'm sure I'd seen these prior to that season - (I'd have been in my early to mid teens for the 80s season) - they were the kind of films that used to be shown on the BBC in that era around public holidays such as Easter or Xmas; but it's those Friday teatime showings in the early 80s that I have the fondest and cosiest memories of.

Love when they bring the gothic atmospheric version of Sherlock to these modern versions.

While Basil and Nigel are acting as those classic figures perfectly, one might overlook Dennis Hoey as Inspector Lestrade. He is fucking hillarious 🤣

Rathbone was the South's choice for Rhett Butler in GWTW, with Clark Gable out of favor, according to Margaret Mitchell's letters. Interesting to imagine Rathbone in certain GWTW scenes as I'm watching him being Holmes. "Elementary, my dear Scarlett."

I love the violent thunder storms in the old black and white classics.
This one has a doozy even defying the laws of physics ! 😂😅
But still great entertainment. 👏🏻👍
Oh and notice the draft blowing the candle flames at 29:13 mark. It’s the little things that make for great cinematography.

Stirring speech at end, unfortunately, they did live long enough to see their hopes fulfilled. We still haven't embrace this "new spirit". Great flick.
