When coming across a large wave, you may have to advance your throttle, especially when boating in a pontoon boat.

In this video, Ray Fernandez of Bridge Marina demonstrates how to encounter large waves aboard one of our Highlands, NJ, fleet pontoons to avoid submarining or capsizing.

First thing you shouldn't do is load up the front with people then hit rough water in a pontoon

Can you discuss how to get through wakes when they are coming at both directions? Just went through this and even though I advanced my throttle on my bass boat I hit that wake so hard my bow came up and BAM. Hurt like hell too. Thought my boat was going to break in half. It was wake boats that caused wakes on one going and one coming. But if you have a suggestion, I am all ears

So advance throttle then advance throttle. Aka, full throttle over waves.

When in doubt mash the throttle and trim it out

Pontoon boats are flat water boats, they are not meant for inlets or chop. Not a seaworthy vessel.

Thanks, but I took care of that when I was 15 yrs old.

Or better yet, don’t buy a pontoon boat if you’re going to be taking it in saltwater,
