Boats will ride differently depending on if the trim is up or down.

In this video, Ray Fernandez of Bridge Marina explains how a boat behaves when the trim is up vs. when it is down.

Actually, when you're aboard a planing hull, like a bass boat for example, trimming the motor up will make it more difficult to get on plane - start with the tim down, on e you're on plane trim up halfway. If you trim up, too high, you lose efficiency due to cavitation. And can damage your engine due to over-rev.

When you slow down you should trim down or you'll porpoise. Unless your driving a pontoon

We have a 2008 Chaparral 256, have to always trim up where I live, my uncle has a Fountain 35 Executioner and has trims up 24/7

Trimming up also increases RPM, speed and gas milage and provides a smaller wake and dryer ride. The boat is also easier to sreet (regsrdless of tiller or console boats). The only time you should NEVER trim up is when you have a strong stern wind. This causes water intake that might not be able to be emptied by the bilge pump or manuel Bailer for smaller vessels. All boats ride differently, and the job of the operator is to adapt the boats capabilities with the circumstances of the lake, as well as the drivers skills.

Thank you for listening.

Uhhhh when you speed up is when you use trim. Makes the motor run more efficient

Start with the motor all the way down .When on top (plane) immediately start raising the motor untill you feel it not grabbing the water and drop the motor down a small bump until you feel it grabbing the water. DONT TRIM TO HIIGH TO OVER REV YOUR MOTOR🎉

My trim pump won’t hold position. Under way it bleeds until the outboard motor is full against the transom in the angle that the rods were set to originally. I cant get the boat to stay nose up in the water.

Do not trim up when going from a higher speed to a lower speed. Your prop will come out of the water and you will redline your rpm’s

The most important thing is how to save gas with the trim
