*Ten simple rules I found useful in law school:*

1. Your first year is usually the easiest, so try applying to doing work for law firms even if it seems like a waste of time to you then. The earlier you get any working experience doing legal work, the greater the ease of transitioning to working when changing from student to lawyer.

2. Sleep is a valuable resource, and you want to make sure you don't squander your time unwisely.

3. Your future goals/desires as a lawyer whatever they may be, will not happen if you don't read your notes up to date and pay attention to the classes/cases.

4. The ability to organize your notes, time, and sense of understanding is an asset that gets developed throughout life. So develop it early to distinguish: what you know, don't know, would like to know, and don't need to know about a scenario.

5. If you can, form a study group with people who are serious about passing the law courses. Even just two, you and another ally are enough, you can delegate topics of the semester to study and then test each other to boost each other's memory and confidence in how to apply and solve legal problems. You end up doing twice the work in half the time and gain a possible future partner for life beyond law school.

6. Attempt multiple past year exam papers if that is available, and prepare your answers so you get used to just spotting the legal issues and the best way to deliver your argument for or against it in a way that is persuasive and clear.

7. Don't date other law students because they are essentially your brother and sister in law school and everyone wants to pass their courses including that other student. But outside law school, you decide if you want to apply that still or not.

8. Take time to read on statute laws, the constitution, textbooks, cases, and even the terms and conditions of a document, or contract for fun, so you are comfortable in just gliding through it. The main point is to read a lot and read to understand.

9. Remember that what you learn in law school is a lot of theory. Real life is much different. If you are serious, then humble your heart in understanding that your work holds importance, and your name is on the line. So, be level-headed and cool in the face of many distractions around you.

10. I would encourage you to have fun. Don't forget the reason why you wanted to become a lawyer in the first place and aim for that.
