We’ll learn about the following:
- What shapes the demand and choice for programming languages in education, from industry demand to academic recognition.
- How educators can use Kotlin to convey different programming paradigms and concepts, from imperative to functional programming.
- Why educators love the Kotlin language.
- Ksenia will give us some insight into how she approaches educators, and the process educators usually take when evaluating and adopting a new programming language. Seb will reminisce over some university course stories of his own, and recount some of his attempts to convince professors to use Kotlin in their classrooms.
- We’ll talk about Kotlin’s role in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), a yearly global programming olympiad involving over 9000 universities and hundreds of events. Kotlin is one of the official languages used by some teams during the world finals. We’ll also discuss the connection between these contests and Kotlin team members.
- As the “language of Android”, Ksenia will mention some of the initiatives that Google have launched to help promote the adoption of Kotlin, including train-the-trainer sessions for dozens of universities.
