All good info. My sister just became the HR director of a community college just by getting her certification, even though she was the HR clerk of a small grocery store before applying. The certification really does open doors.

I just want to be a manager just so I don’t have to be broke. Live in MA and the difference between pay in Coordinator and Manager is double-triple what they pay as a coordinator. Currently trying to move up in life for me and my wife and these videos are helping me!

How hard is it to get into an hr management position with just a bachelor’s and hr certification? I’m considering a master’s in hr management. It’s a 10 month program. Some say yes to masters and some say no! I guess my concern is how far can you climb up the ladder with just a BA and how fast? Considering the cost of a master’s vs just certifications. Right now I’m studying for the Aphr certification and should be getting it soon . Excited about taking the initial step. I have an associate degree in communication and my ba in humanities… I worked in hr as an assistant many years ago for 1.5 yrs only. Now I’m in the insurance industry and do get involved in the benefits part of hr.

Hey Tamika,
I have a degree in communications but all my work experience has been in customer service
Over the years I was opportuned to carry out an assignment of acquiring talent/hiring for my organization and I love it!
I want to break into Hr so I came to youtube, googled Hr career and your video was the first that popped up and i love all you contents.
My question is, I currently live in Nigeria so switching careers is a bit tough do you advise I take a diploma course in Hr?

Hey Tamika! I love, love. love your HR series! I've watched a lot of your videos; you are fun to watch and easy to understand! I wondered if you could help me understand if I'm qualified HR to become a Human Resource Manager. My most recently job was as a contractor for small financial startup company as Sr Talent Recruiting Consultant for 2 years. Prior experience;10+ years as retail store operations manager. I have MBA, but I'm not HR certified. I'm interested in becoming a HR Manager but finding most HR Manager postings request PHRs or SHMR. l feel stuck and a bit confused on whether I should still apply, because I qualify for most of the posting requirements? Should I still apply? Or do need apply to lower HR positions, like HR assistant or coordinators until I get certified? I really want to transition in becoming a HR manager. Any advice will be appreciated. Also, do you offer HR career counseling? If so, please let me know where to apply. Thank you in advance!

Heyy Timeka,

Nice job on this video! I’m an HR coordinator working on transitioning to a recruiter or generalist role. Are you open to me sending you my resume for feedback about how to make this move as swiftly as possible? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have lots of related experience in this field. I was looking into doing a pivot and going into being a therapist. No thanks though. Four to five additional years of school. No. Lol
