What is Onboarding and why is it important?
Onboarding is the process where newly hired employees are introduced into the organisation. It is an important part of helping employees understand their new position and job requirements and helps them to integrate seamlessly with the rest of the company.
Research shows that the quality of onboarding experienced by new employees dramatically impacts engagement, performance, and longevity, among other factors. The best onboarding processes will include relational onboarding, which includes:
- Setting expectations
- Building relationships with other employees
- Creating confidence and trust
- Creating a clear definition of roles and boundaries
The onboarding process is the first step in building a relationship with a new employee. A company which invests in a new employee’s well-being through a thoughtful onboarding process is well on its way to increasing long-term employee engagement, retention, and overall job satisfaction.
