The Worst of TikTok Doctors

Показать описание
Dr. Roxy, aka former plastic surgeon Dr. Katherine Roxanne Grawe, lost her medical license for, among other things, livestreaming surgeries on TikTok - including answering questions from fans while using surgical tools on patients. CAN YOU IMAGINE?? If any of you ever catch me livestreaming surgeries, send me straight to jail. Take away that medical license and send me to a psych eval because I've clearly gone off the rails, and so did Dr. Roxy, which is why she can no longer practice medicine. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, Dr. Roxy.

I’m sorry to say, but I’m glad she lost her licence before her negligence and thirst for fame got one of her patient killed. This is irresponsible, gross negligence and unprofessional.

It’s shocking how many plastic surgeons do this. She’s just the one that has lost her license. There’s a doctor in Toronto that decided to livestream a surgery WITHOUT consent, went under review, then got his license back and THEN WENT BACK TO FILMING SURGERIES! I was shocked about that one.

I had foot surgery in March. I had to sign a permission for the surgery to be filmed because the hospital films all surgeries. It listed in that permission that it could be streamed, which was weird. My surgeon told me that it wouldn't be streamed anywhere beyond the hospital, and only if there was reason to view it. My anestigologist also went through the paperwork and she told me that the streaming permission made her uncomfortable but she wanted me to know that it wasn't going on ticktok and no one would do a Dr. Roxy. It's so sad that she felt the need to clarify that.

So weird how having even a relatively modest TikTok following can make you act differently! I’m a radiographer and I once had a patient ask me after I’d done his xray whether I found it weird having to xray someone so famous. I asked what he meant and then he was like “What? You haven’t heard of me? I’m like super TikTok famous!” I just said “good for you!” And sent him back to his doctor for the results… still don’t know who this person was 😂

I'm glad dr. Roxy permanently lost her license, because she shouldn't have been getting distracted while she was doing surgeries on her patients. shame on her for doing that!!

I’ll say, earlier this year I had to see a wound care specialist for several months due to a big wound on my leg that wasn’t healing. She was an AMAZING doctor- knowledgeable, capable, and very calming and compassionate bedside manner. Under her care the stubborn wound finally healed, and on our last appointment she asked if I was okay with us taking a picture together. Her clinic has a Facebook page, and occasionally shares posts about her various successes in treating patients. She made sure I was totally fine with it, told me no super personal information would be included, and the picture CERTAINLY wasn’t taken in the middle of her performing a medical procedure! It is possible for doctors to utilize social media in a responsible and positive way (you’re evidence of that, MDJ), but what this woman did was just crazy! Definitely deserved to have her license revoked!!!

As a current pharmacist intern in NZ, with regard to social media we are told to not do anything stupid, do anything that could potential bring the profession into disrepute, or to breach confidentiality, either in person or online. I think the exact comment at one of our sets of conferences was " you decide to play the stupid games, you win the stupid prizes, and that stupid prize may well be your license being no more." 😂

If I walked into a doctors office and they asked me to make a Tik tok with them I would automatically assume they are unprofessional and I would walk out of there.

I'd totally have no problem if a doctor asked me if my surgery could be filmed for educational reasons. I've been used as a medical teaching tool for a lot of my life being treated at research and teaching hospitals. But to film without consent, for TikTok, and to take the role of an ENTERTAINER, not a doctor while performing surgery is ABHORENT.

Dumb ways to die, let a surgeon who's more focused on TikTok than on surgery, and she inadvertently kills you.

The point MDJ makes at 3:50 is what hit me the hardest. Livestreaming during surgery is one thing (assumming all appropriate consent was gotten, etc), but interacting with the tiktok audience and not giving your patient 100% of your focus is beyond unacceptable.

While I feel bad that someone dedicated at least ten years of her life to medical training she can no longer use it wasn’t just about the social media. She perforated a patient’s intestines doing liposuction. That is bad surgery.
BTW, I first heard of the pencil test about 45 years ago where they said if you put a pencil under your breast and it didn’t drop you should not go braless. So I was a teenager convinced that my breasts were already abnormally saggy.

I work in hospital quality and compliance and I live close to where Dr Roxy practiced. I understand that she wasn’t bound to the rules of a hospital because she worked out of her own office, but I still have so many concerns related to HIPAA. I know that these patients signed a waiver stating they could be filmed and put on social media but I’m shocked anyone would actually agree to this. It’s obvious to me that Dr Roxy was just in it for clout and fame instead of actual education. She was unable to safely take care of her patients while she was filming. She cared more about getting the right angles and lighting instead of PERFORMING SURGERY.

Former hospital attorney here. It’s things like this that reinforce the stereotype on Scrubs of the hospital attorney running around screaming about malpractice 😅

I got my licence to practice just recently and I would PERISH if I lost it after literally putting my life into it lol.
Dr. Roxy fucked around so much that she found out so hard 😂

It’s got to be pathological. I will never understand how someone can go through four years of undergrad, four years of medical school, three years of surgery residency, two years of plastic surgery residency, and come out the other side behaving like this.

I had a Whipple surgery7 years ago and then a complex liver transplant a little over a year ago at a world renowned hospital. They did film my transplant surgery for med students etc. The whole process ended up split into 3 surgeries over 3 days. I didn’t mind, because I figured it would help future surgeons and patients. I would never agree to go to a surgeon like Dr. Roxy.

The more I read about her, the more it becomes apparent that even without the live-streaming, she was a terrible doctor. So many patients with infections & incompetent care from her staff.

Just wanted to say thank you for pronouncing Hawaii properly. You are so reverent of the cultures you submerse yourself in. Aloha from Kauai 😊

I'm an attorney in Columbus, Ohio, but I'm only here to say that I recognize that room where the medical board member is making his announcement. It's the former Ohio Supreme Court courtroom that is now used by various state agencies for hearings. It's in the State Office Tower in downtown Columbus.
