👁 About this video : This video is the ultimate buyers guide to a Nissan GTR R35. What should you look for when buying a Nissan GTR? How many miles are too many for a Nissan GTR? Is it expensive to insure and maintain and Nissan GTR? Are there reliability concerns with a GTR? Let's go over all of the information I have with coming an R35 GTR for over 3 years. The Nissan GTR is very easy and cheap to maintain if you do things yourself and go with quality aftermarket brands. Nissan dealer charges a fortune for replacement parts and servicing. It's very easy to do things 'diy' on a GTR. The Nissan GTR is pretty reliable over all the years and the only major issues pop up with the first few year transmissions. If they are well maintained and not abused they can still last a long time. But just don't mod them crazy with a ton of power over stock. Once you get into 2014 they are nearly bulletproof. The GTR has a clunky transmission regardless and you will have to get used to it. The slop in the gears is basically because when metal expands when it's hot, they will be perfect and precise. So around town the GTR can be clunky. But it adds character! I love owning a Nissan GTR and it's one of the best cars I've ever driven especially do 4th money! GTR's hold value well and are still worth a premium. So you wont lose much money, if anything, over a few years of ownership.

*UPDATE* Since filming this video GTR prices have changed a lot! I sold this R35 GTR for $75k with 50k miles in 2023. Expect to pay in the $70k range for a 2013+ R35 with around 50k miles. 2017 GTR's are going for about $100k or more. Early years are going to be in the $60k range.

I remember around 2010 I had a few friends that went ballistic wanting a GTR when these were starting to get popular. Not sure if they were able to accomplish their dreams but it does make me think back to those times.

The R35 has to be one of the best examples of a modern car carrying the lineage of a legendary ancestor.
Very different from what came before, but no less dominant.

Excellent review! I've owned a 2016 for about 8 months. The first thing I did before buying, (and I recommend everyone do this) is bring it to the dealer for a diagnostic which will show how hot the transmission temp. got, and the oil temp. If ridiculously hot, (and the GTR tech can tell you) you may not want to buy it. Cost me $100.00, they gave me a nice print out and went over everything. Definitely gave me piece of mind! I've driven lots of sports cars over the years, Datsun Z cars, BMW, Benz, Hellcat, etc - there is no comparison. One of my life's best purchases.

I’m now a 2019 R35 owner and man this is a weapon of a machine. This channel is the best in my opinion regarding GTR ownership 💯🔥🔥🔥

People who have these cars normally just talk about the speed and power. I thank you for giving me a real review on this car, the pros and cons of this car. Thanks for sharing.

I love it when you post up about your GTR, because I watched all your videos about it before I bought myself one last November. I'm just glad I bought one before the prices went up. Keep up the good work!

With a GT-R you get a multi-page check sheet with explanations of the sounds and noises to expect. They define the GT-R as a supercar and to expect the unexpected. My 2020 has been great. The only thing I have noticed is reverse. When backing up it almost feels like the rear end is a solid axle which is amplified the more you turn the wheel. The steering remains centered but when you turn the wheel more, the resistance is sharply reduced. You feel you could easily handle any rally course driving with one finger. So at speed, 2 hands are required on the wheel to avoid over steering. At increased speeds, the handling is more planted and very comfortable.

I remember seeing a 2011 GTR with 133k miles going for 30k even. I legitimately contemplated going for it. But I’ll wait to get a low mileage one.

Just so you know the issues are with the CBA models of 09-11 GTRs for Launch control braking the transfer case and other transmission issues. But if you talk to a place that knows what they are talking about like Cicio Performance (formerly Top Speed Motorsports) they can upgrade anything to handle the power you are trying to get to. And you can get a new 2015 bell housing installed so it will fix that rattle. And the car is heavy enough so adding wheels that weigh more is not the best thing as you should go for wheels that weigh less for that unsprung weight. Like changing out to CCB kit will be less weight and improve braking and handling because of the weight saving on unsprung weight.

Technically model year wise (for the US) the 2009-2011 are the CBA. 2012-2016 (start of the DBA) have the same front daytime lights (with the slightly different front fascia), a different rear diffuser, a white-ish LCD gauge cluster, and gray plastic interior trim rather than the CBA’s orange LCD cluster and more silver plastic trim inside. 2015 Nissan went to the first “lightning bolt” headlight design and to the ring LED taillights. 2017 and up have current body changes and interior design changes as you described. 2012 was really the first step in the right direction in terms of improved bell housing design and changing the launch control logic a bit. Shep also confirmed the 2012-2014 model year cars have the same transmission parts internally.
