If you stack them on top of each other, have the binding on opposite sides by having every other comic upside down. This prevents warping of the comics

Collectors will often pay a small premium if you put in the listing that you’re shipping using gemini mailers and also if the bags are mylar like those appear to be.

Lonnie, I noticed some of the listings have NM and Fine grades on the books. Comic book buyers are persnickety (and I am being kind) when it comes to condition. Generally speaking, that type of grading is an affirmative statement of the grade and backs you into corners if you miss something. If it is super clean and really clear, you can say things like "high grade", but if you say NM then you can't say "I am not an expert in comics". I have been doing this for a while and people fight me over grades all the time. The best thing is to say High Grade if they are and if not, just put down the flaws in the description (e.g., spine ticks, corner deflections, creases, etc.). Even with experience grading is a minefield.

One more thing about grading. When you put VF or NM in the title, the buyer probably will expect to receive the comic in that condition. You’re using the best mailer, which is great. I recommend attaching the comics Mylar to the mailer, so it doesn’t shift. Geminis do skew, so by using painters tape to secure it to the side panels, you’re increasing the chance of getting the comic to the buyer in the grade you’ve dictated. (Painters tape doesn’t ruin the Mylar or poly.

This was very helpful thanks. I never thought about scanning them! That's really smart! Better than taking photos of comics.

If your steps never review the interiors, you may miss coupon cut outs, writing or page damage\staple rust. Coupon cutout were quite often in old comics and will make a NM exterior go completely to a GD comic. Interiors page color can also quickly change grades (there is a white page index to use from Overstreet Price Guides). Also, check for smells is required as mildew or smoke damage lowers grades. And also make sure all the pages are there... Some center fold page(s) could have fallen out and look perfectly fine, but really they are gone. To inspect these possible problems on older comics, never fully open the comic.

I cringed when I watched you taking the comics out of the bag leaving the scotch tape on the flap. I know you think you are careful but that tape can snag the comic and remove part of the cover or back. Just remove the tape and stick to side of comic bag before you remove and replace it after comic is safely back inside bag. Okay, I won't warn you again! :-) Good luck!!

For bulk shipping, I used to buy the adjustable depth and single comic mailers. I found that just buying record album shippers in bulk was much cheaper and I use them for vinyl and comics, plus they can be used for other flat paper goods like maps and photos

I would use the even-number grades 2–8 (GD, VG, FN, VF) only until you become an expert at grading. Avoid NM to begin with. If the comic is really NM and you described it as VF, you will have a delighted customer. If you do it the other way, you will have a disappointed or angry customer. You can still price it as NM and let the pictures sell it.

I know some comic sellers state the condition, but in description say they aren’t an expert, and using the knowledge they know to make a educated estimate of conditions. So u could just add that to your descriptions

As others have mentioned: it is super important that in your description you mention you are not a grading expert. Grading involves looking at every page, and takes a lot of unbiased experience. Be very careful on how you’re picking the comic up off the scanner bed, you don’t want to introduce flaws after the scans. If a comic is $100+ think about using white gloves. The pricing tool is good, but remember that’s the high price they’re showing.

I have a collection I have to dive into soon, so this was quite helpful. Thanks Lonnie!

I bought a scanner with a 12x18 image area, you can do 2 comics at a once to save time.

From a full time comic and card seller here is some helpful tips. Shipping in the gemini mailers is great but shipping media mail is BY FAR a much better way to sell them. I have heard both sides of media mail vs first class and selling comics that are $50 and under gets MM over gets 1st class. Second SCANNING does NOT get a buyer all the info they need. They want page quality and pics in reflected light to see spine tics folds color breaks etc. You need to list them with nots like White pages or white /offwhite Cream / yellow etc etc. Get a page color chart to help you see what is what. Front and back pics are NOT enough to make an educated buy. I know you probably comp off last solds on ebay but the prices range soo much because of condition you really need to learn how to properly grade a book before you put it up for sale.

That’s great. I’m glad that you are doing that way. I get so confused when people pass up inventory. Sell it to the next guy. Then they have to go sourcing again.

That comic price guide is just that a guide, a lot of books get hot quickly based on speculation and the price guide does not factor that in till its to late to adjust pricing. And some books your selling will not fetch the price your looking for. A book is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Why do you scan the comics, rather than taking pictures?

You are awesome! Got so much info i didn't know i needed. Thank you!!

7:11 you almost introduced a spin tick here. I would use a backing board to lay it on the scanner and then remove the backing board. Then slide the backing board back under the spine to pick it up. Use another backing board on the opposite side, flip it over and then put it back on the scanner. Always keep the spine towards you. This is how pressers flip books over.
