Hi everyone, here's an art tutorial on hair, since this seems to be something that a lot of people struggle with. I'm not an expert by any means, but hopefully this video will still be helpful to someone.

00:00 - Intro
00:32 - Studying real life hair
01:36 - Textured hair
03:49 - Stylized hair is not the same
05:03 - Constructing stylized hair
06:33 - Shape design (variations)
08:13 - Shading
09:49 - Final touches

I love that Pikat said "improbable anime hair" instead of just "impossible" because it implies that, statistically speaking, there is someone out there who's got natural anime protagonist hair

the fact that pikat is left-handed is somehow such a huge plot twist I did not see coming...
The fact that the animated hand is also left, should have been the clue... But apparently not enough for me!

I’ve been needing this tutorial so badly. I always oversimplify hair.

I struggle so much with drawing hair. Needing more practice aside, I just generally have a hard time visualizing and drawing. I'm slow to learn creative things, but I get there hehe. This hair is so beautiful I'm even more inspired. Thank you.

Im sure you mentioned it in other videos, but when shading/adding details, always remember: determine the big primary shape (for hair: which half is in shadows). Don't let the secondary shapes obscure the primary shape (shade the individual, big strands). Repeat for tertiary shapes (individual strands/texture /locks within a bigger strand)
I think proko did a good explanation on that principle

Just wanted to say, being an artist who’s been leaning more on the cartoony side and is shifting more to anime/realism and you’ve quickly become my favorite artist YouTuber!

Even though I am a beginner artist, I still have trouble with the hair size (I make it too small). I also have trouble making hair have the curves but describing them as ribbons is great advice and I'm gonna give that a try. Also can't wait to see the dragon tutorial.

Your guides are so helpful! Ive been wanting to learn to draw for years, but Im so impatient. If I dont see near-immediate progress I decide its not for me and give up. And then I work on my fantasy novel and think how great it would to draw these characters I see in my head non stop, so I try again. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam.
But this time Im sticking with it, been practicing a lil bit every day for a couple weeks now and Im seeing decent progress(who would have thought😅)
Hair has proven to be a particularly large roadblock, its so frustrating. Between this video and the "You can learn anything" one hope has been restored and Im ready to try again. ❤❤❤

PS: I am so hype to see Monster Hunter fan art. My favorite game series hands down
