Open Nuclear _TM_ sounds a little alarming in my opinion

And of course, even if you had the knowledge, it would be incredibly difficult to create a nuclear bomb in your backyard because of the prohibitively expensive materials involved and the fact that those materials are extremely heavy.

It's funny you mentioned OpenAI in the list of open-source things there - in the AI community, it's pretty well known for it's very ironic name, on account of how aggressively closed-source they are about a lot of stuff.

Open Nuclear sounds like a toy set, make your own reactor at home! but i believe some kids chemistry set did do that with some uranium glass, it did not go well.

Open nuclear is already a thing. It's called OPEN100 and I'm pretty sure some company was thinking about actually using its plans.

Biotech is pretty regulated too. Iirc you can't buy something more deadly than some muscle cells or neurons to grow without certification

Matpat recently made a video on colors, where he explored why green is so associated with danger nuclear and stuff. Would recommend

Radioactive spider lol. Gotta love references!

Nuclear is more open than you might think. If a 17 year old eagle scout can build a reactor in his back yard, then I think the information is readily available.

Another example is fire it has a potential for good and bad

Just recently discovered your channel, great stuff with excellent commentary. I am not convinced, however, that you are a nuclear engineer. I think you may very well be Steve Zahn, gallivanting as an engineer. Or perhaps Steve Zahn is an engineer gallivanting as an actor?? So which reality is it then, and which name is the pseudonym? In an infinite universe, anything is possible! Subbed btw!

im a simple man, i dont mess around with nuclear stuff because im wholy unqualified to even be near it.

Same with biological things, im wholy unqualified to even know where to start on how to make a virus lol

They published how to make the avian flu transmit between mammals. For now, it's relatively easy to access much of this information. The cat's already out of the bag

Part of me is left wondering, if there is a predetermined "path" of progression that any intelligent lifeform is supposed to follow, we messed up by inventing the nuke and having the power to create a super-disease BEFORE having colonized multiple planets.

6:45 imagine if in the future we could have a fully modular, self operated, safe and compact nuclear reactor, which could power ships and electric aircraft.

btw, despite the name, OpenAI is not actually open source. OpenAI runs ChatGPT which is very much closed source.

What brought my "little boys" is that he said "u even Will be able to make a nuke on ur garage"

Considering war in Ukraine and that Russian officials regularly make threats with nuclear weapons - I say right now the risks of an all-out nuclear war are higher. However the risks of accidents in biotech area is higher due to cheaper and more available technology
