After 17 years, Brood X cicadas emerge from earth's surface

After 17 years underground, periodical cicadas from Brood X are set to surface in the Delaware Valley. In fact, some already have in Quakertown.

Some of the creepy-looking insects could be seen emerging from the surface of the earth on Caroline Dutertre's 25-acre land.

She had a box covering the space, which likely helped heat up the ground to the 64 degrees needed to get them to come out.

Cicadas would be a good name for the Washington no name football team. They only win a playoff game every seventeen years.

Why are media outlets hyping this so much? In the south, we have cicadas every summer. It would not be summer without the sound of cicadas cranking up as night falls.

Princeton, NJ will be the epicenter of BROOD X cicadas. As I remember in 2004 as it was my first year working up in the Princeton Shopping Center and they were swarming around.

I use to collect them when I was little & didn't even know what they were. I just thought they were a locust!

One of these creatures got in my apt about five yrs ago(Toronto)..I thought it was a bat..my cat grabbed it in mid air..I screamed..he dropped it and I had to get my neighbour to help me get it out..thing was the size of a small plane 🤣🤣🤣🤣

So the male sings, and if they female like his song she will flap her wings. OK. But how does he know WHICH female has the hots for him? I mean, there are gazillions of these things, all flapping their wings from some cicada dude.
