HERAKLION 🇬🇷 Ηράκλειο Drone Aerial 4K Crete Iraklio

Heraklion (i.e. Iraklio, Megalo Castro, Chandakas, Candia) is the capital of the island of Crete in Greece. Heraklion has a population of approximately 180,000. The city has massive medieval walls. It has had the longest siege in 1648 in world history. The city survived 21 years of continuous Ottoman attack untill it had to surrender in 1669. Many Venetian renaissance buildings were damaged and lost during the siege and afterwards the Ottoman turned the churches into Mosques destoying their interior. The original renaissance paintings were also burned (only few paintings of El Greco, who was from the island survived). The few renaissance paintings and icons that survived are in the church of St. Catherine or in the Chiesa Dei Greci in Venice. After World War I, especially after 1923, many survivors from the Greco-Turkish war settled in Heraklion. Especially in the neighborhood of Neo Alikarnassos (New Bodrum). During the Second World War when the Germans invaded the island the city was ravaged by a continuous bombardment. Nevertheless, it's important city walls are still standing and some of the extraordinary renaissance buildings like the Loggia (town hall), the Morosini Fountain and the Roca al Mare (Fortress protecting the harbor) are still visible.

Heraklion has a world known archeological museum of Minoan art which even won an Award for best European Museum. Europa and Zeus were born in Crete. The Labyrinth and the Minotaur is part of the ancient city of Knossos is which is located a few miles to the north of the city centre.

Geia sas apo thn Armenia...Long years ago I have been in Crete island.We went to island by ferry but after second days stormy weather we back to Athens by airplane. First time I drank retzina on there at local fish restaurant.Of course I remember old Armenian church in Iraklion too.I have been in Greece more than 40 times or more :) Its my second homeland I felt always..I am big fan of Greek Music, sometimes we meet to my flat for Greek night with Ouzo.
Anyway I subbed your channel with my another accoun bcs sometimes YT cancelled mutual subscribtion same time or same days..I will suggest ur channel to my Greek mania friend also :)

Super video...so well done. If you ever have the time and get the chance I am a member of a site for ex members of the IAS USAF base which is has been closed for sometime and sold/given to the Greek Government and it sure would be of interest to all of us to see what it looks like now from a drone perspective. We have reunions which take place several times each year but of course can only view the base from ground level...just a thought. Thanks for the video we all have many pleasant memories of Crete and the wonderful people we met on our stay on the island....all the best and stay safe.

Υπέροχη η τέταρτη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της Ελλάδος αλλά δυστυχώς έχει απαρχαιωμένες υποδομές...δεν γίνεται μία πόλη όπως το Ηράκλειο να μην διαθέτει Τραμ, δικαστικό μέγαρο της προκοπής και ποδηλατόδρομους.Ευτυχώς είναι σε εξέλιξη το έργο του μεγάλου αεροδρομίου !
