As someone who left college because I was tired of fighting for my accommodations, thank you so much for being this kind of person.

Got my linguistics degree before being diagnosed with autism and an audio processing disorder... trying to go back to school and being like "listen, the fact that I passed without accommodations should count for something!"😭

As someone who is somewhat scared to ask for help with a disability, thank you for both understanding how helpful it is to one student and then going the extra step to make it helpful for all students. You are truly a blessing

I was like "oh, this is good" once the video was over, and then - crossing the finish line before any emotions did - I almost started sobbing.
Is that repressed emotions?
No, go back inside where my memories of failing school due to a lack of this stuff are! D:

Seriously, I just cannot when there is a time limit. I was no.1 in maths in 3d grade, then there was a timed test.
After a few minutes of realising that my brain would not provide any help, and feeling like I was gonna throw up I excused myself to the bathroom. Stayed til recess.
Then I pretended I was sick every time she said she scheduled for me to do the test.

Finally I told my mom, who said to remove the time limit. Was a bit of a fuss, shitty principal, then allowed.
I was done in 10 minutes - the time limit had been 40.

It's not the time, it's the pressure of knowing you're timed! \._./
I got to take IQ tests for my Asperger diagnosis with and without knowing it was timed, and there was an *extreme* difference...

I wish all teachers were like you. I had to fight over & over for each accomadation for my ASD, immunocompromised, & ADHD children. It's still a fight for them in high school now.

I left college because I was so anxiety/panic ridden over grades and especially timed tests. The red tape that I had to go through to get untimed tests was literally too much. School is causing a lot of us real harm. Thank you for being the person who looks out for students.💚

I wish we had more educators like you, not every student learns the same and accommodations help keep everyone on track.

You're one of maybe three stories I've ever seen of an accommodating college teacher/professor. I am shocked how kind you are. And I shouldn't be, because kindness should be the standard, but.... You know what I mean.

I was diagnosed with ADHD shortly before I started grad school. I've heard that getting disability accommodations when diagnosed as an adult is a nightmare, so I didn't even try. But my grad school experience was so different than undergrad - all my profs give us these accommodations - flexible/non-absolute deadlines, recorded lectures, excessive time for tests, etc. It's such a different experience. I really appreciate the teachers who do this. <3

I REALLY wish more professors/teachers were like you. I’m a blind autistic. I struggled through school due to many teachers not following my IEP. Then I attempted 4 different universities in 8 years. It didn’t work out. I know a part of it was my fault. I struggle greatly with communication, socialisation, and get overwhelmed easily. However, how often I had to try to advocate for myself really took it out of me. I’d talk with every professor before the semester started. Then after the first class. Then almost every assignment we would have to meet and strategise how to modify or adapt it. I’d get frustrated, mentally exhausted, then shut down. It was a cycle I couldn’t break. I finally gave up in 2019. Thank you for giving other disabled students a fighting chance.

I suffer bad depression and I had a teacher in college tell me that on my bad days if I could just come in at all she wouldn’t hold attendance against me. She changed my life with that.

This almost made me cry, bless you. My mom fought so many schools so hard trying to get them to not keep me in from recess or give me detention over falling behind in class, or at least stop penalizing my teammates for it so they wouldn’t hate me so much. She always was told she was being over protective, I’m old enough to be able to do things, maybe the other kids resenting me will teach me to get things done. It destroyed my self esteem. I always tried so hard in school, but no matter what I did, I was the last to be finished with anything, I’d still be confused at the end of a lesson, I’d go home and spend hours on homework starting in third grade, sobbing when it was past my bedtime and I still hadn’t finished.

No one ever cared to consider the fact that maybe I actually was doing my best. I just was a very slow child. Everything I did get turned in, I got As on. It just took me longer to do things and to understand things. I had to read and re read and would ask the same question repeatedly sometimes. I had to really think about every question. I was just slow. But that was always interpreted as not paying attention.

The fact that someone understands this and is this good and kind…thank you.

Meanwhile, my highschool refused me extra time on tests for fear of “cheating” despite my official ADHD diagnosis 🙄

I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD till my late 30s however, when I was in college I requested to record my science lectures. Working a full time job, being a full time student and a single mom with a toddler being able to relisten to the lectures or the recordings of myself reading my notes and definitions while driving, cleaning, doing laundry etc made it so much easier to retain the information. I never had a professor say no to recording. It really drilled in the concept of "it never hurts to ask".

I told my professor my mom had cancer and I was struggling (I had an A) missed one class and she failed me. I reminded her of my circumstance and she smiled and said “we’re not talking about that” 👀

Thank you.

I have adhd and bowl problems and these are the types of people that I want to see more because I can’t physically hold in bladder stuff past 25 minutes and this helps so much with accommodations for teachers to be doing this

I've seen so many teachers dismiss and deny accommodations, saying we are just lazy and want things to be easy. It makes me so happy you actually applied this to your whole class! many undiagnosed people who need accommodations cannot access them because without a diagnosis it is very hard to get a doctor to write up what you need. also a ton of my disabled friends left college because even with accomodations in place, teachers ignored them/they always had to fight to get those accomodations respected

It's educators such as yourself that make learning an incredible experience. Thank you to your parents for making you the person you are today.

This is making me tear up how beautiful it is.

Do a video on how high school students should be allowed to sleep in due to their shifted circadian rhythm and I will bawl.
