How does Resin 3d printing work? The Basics Explained.

Resin 3d printing, what is it? How does it work? Why should you care? We cover all the basic of resin based printing. Also called SLA or MSLA printers use a fundamentally different use of technology than filament based printers. Liquid Photopolymer resin is used as the material instead of PLA or ABS plastic. Then the LCD screen below the liquid bath selectively blocks UV lights from shining into the polymer. This solidifies instantly and makes one layer! Those layers stack upon each other just like a "Normal" 3d Printer!

The fact that this was already 1 years old and resin 3D printer is just going mainstream today shows how important and timeless this video is, i don't know if you gonna read this bro but i'm quite sad that you only got 6.6k subs with such an informative channel, This is an amazing channel that the few appreciates.

When I looked up how resin 3d printers worked this was the first result. I was cool to hear you guys are somewhere in Edmonton as well.

I'm curious about this because all the videos I've seen make it look like there's just like a pool of liquid and then all the sudden somehow the whatever it is just starts coming out of it which doesn't make any sense versus the other ones which are easy to comprehend.

You guys explained this really well.

This is a VERY helpful video for learning the differences between FDM and Resin 3D printing! I had heard of resin printing, but didn't really know anything about it. Not only is this a great, interesting, and informative video on 3D printing, but were I in the market or wanting to get into 3D printing, I'd want to watch this video. Very helpful and interesting... and yes, I think he's earned another month's rent ;)

I just figured out about these printers, had to look up how it worked, that's absolutely genius!

stumbled across the video and I am also an alberta man and I got very excited when I realized you guys were local! (3 degrees and a million billion dollars later given to the u of A for tuition; I miss having roommates and being a student. Enjoy it all boys! )

My Elegoo 3D printer setup is composed of 3 parts. The first, of course, is the printer itself. Attached to the printer is an air purifier that I vent to the outside of my hobby room. The last is an automated integrated washer/UV curing unit. Once you get the hang of using it, it is pretty much "hit the button and walk away" process.

It also depends for what you're going to print. For example, I personally bought a 3D printer to print parts for DIY projects etc. So I don't really care a whole lot about super fine prints like a resin printer can do. A 0.2MM nozzle is more than fine enough for me. Also resin printers are usually pretty small as for the bigger printer you want, the bigger LCD display in the printer etc which brings the cost up dramatically. However for people who more want to print figurines or other art related stuff, or in general where fineness plays a really big factor, I can really see the value of a resin printer.

If you're not going to print anything for a while, do you need to drain the tank? Or can you leave the fluid in the tank until the next time you print?

I have a 3d printer coming in and I already made resin related things. But I feel like the part you said was difficult I already experienced in my rain craft so I dont feel so intimidated by the machine. I'm excited to use it to make figures of my artwork

I've had that exact printer sitting in my Amazon cart for about 2 years. Someday I'll justify getting it! :-)

If you show this video to anyone 20 years ago, they'd think resin 3D printing is magic. It's pretty incredible how technology has progressed.

My question is why can't you scale it up? Couldn't you just have a larger pool of resin? Or is the main problem gravity, since the model is being lifted out of the bath upside down, like you said, a huge resin printer would have a super heavy model and it wouldn't successfully keep sticking to the bed upside down? Is that it?

You explain this so well I understood it like a light switch went on now I completely 100% understand exactly how this works and that's crazy

5:48 you mention that resin prints are "faster, stronger and more detailed"
I'm not sure about stronger, if you check Thomas Sanladerer's channel I think he tested resin vs filament and found that filament prints are almost always mechanically stronger then resin prints, usually by quite a lot.

*Does the resin come is different hardness's? I am looking for a soft rubber.*

It really made me think about the movie Small Soldiers ... in the intro of the movie, they print out toys, do you think it was this technology? Was it available at the time ? My memories may be a little bit unclear due to the time i've seen the movie... but i'll definitely go back to watch the scene ..

Thank you. That was the best explanation I have read/seen about 3d resin printing.
