Wow, Sam Harris refuses to give credit where credit is due. How can he deny the incredible history of the ancient Arab world and the innovations they've made which resulted in the advanced world we live in today?

Thanks. I'm 63 and I'm just now learning about the gaps in my understanding of history. When listening to this, and learning how highly valued education was to the Arab speaking world, I'm seeing irony everywhere. If The Dark Age is represented by a lack of cultural and academic progress, then in the western world, especially the US, we're all walking around with our own mini Dark Age in our heads.

I also want to ask about the standardisation of Arabic did Arabic standardised because of the caliphate umar of uthman brought together the quran and to make the quran more easy to read by adding vowl letters for example.

Well why do you base the Islamic golden age upon Islam? That era which flourished has nothing to do with Islamic teachings ! Things flourished because of contributions of countries scholars like Persia, India, … which most of them were just Muslim cause of invasion of Arabs and their progress was due to their work and had nothing to do with teaching of Islam! The fact is that at that time Europe was fd up and scientists who were not allowed to work there came to Islamic territory and contributed to its flourishing! Which is per se has nothing to do with Islam just with more tolerant rulers at that time
