Oh my god. Life is hard as an empath. I didn't even know I was one till recently. All the pain and misery of the world affects me soooo much and I was always trying to cheer people up and boost their confidence🙄 and everytime I think about someone I can feel their lives!! Their happiness and sorrows and everything. Exhausting!!

I’m a retired critical care nurse. It was very difficult to separate from the reality that my patients were experiencing, but I HAD to, if I was going to care for them properly. It took a toll; I retired early & will only care for direct family now. Meditation surprised me as a helpful tool. So did yoga & Tai Chi. Gratitude also makes a huge difference. I think of gratitude as the opposite of despair. Absolutely necessary if you need to keep depression at bay. 🙏🏻 Namaste

For me...I call on the Spirit of God to protect me. I guess its my 'jaguar'. I hadn't realized I was doing most of these for self protection. Thanks for the reminder.

Block others by letting your boundaries be known & dont be afraid to interrupt them, its not rude, emotional vampires dont care when they dump their probs on you so don't feel bad for defending yourself

I started doing the shielding visual when I was just a kid, completely intuitively. I didn't really know why I was doing it. Then later, in many places I worked it was absolutely essential. Often there was so much hostility and animosity coming my way, the shield had to become reflective. Probably not the most compassionate solution, but better than having to absorb and or transmute those energies when the first priority is doing your work.

I always thought that there was something wrong with me because I can't stand bright lights, loud noises, loud people especially! I took a personality test and one part said I need Rejuvenation time. That gave me permission to take the quiet time I need.

My home always smells like lavender!!! I use lavender everything. My home is my quiet place. When I came to the worst time of my life.... I went off and lived in the woods for three months. These are all awesome suggestions.

Shielding, sage, salts are like Dumbo using a feather to fly. It will probably work and gives you that tangible something…

The real deal is tho guys just like your empathic powers, the power to protect yourself is within you. For energy vampires to get to you, you have to allow it in some way shape or form… this means protecting yourself is as simple as repeating in your mind “I do not consent.”

Obviously meditation always helps with just about anything!

It is also imperative to (as I called it even before I knew being an empath was a thing) get your energy back. This means just a little time away from everyone… even your kids, spouse pets or bffs. Being a busy mom, I take this time while taking a bath. Because water also helps and it’s a good way to multi task (washing and getting your energy back) without feeling guilty.
