Torrents... Definitely the main reason most people get a VPN...

Just got a ad for a super secure and private VPN while watching this video. YouTube's analytics are on point.

VPN ads have actually changed recently. It went from secure private to geo unlocking as it's main selling point

Absolutely lost it when the mid-roll ad was for a VPN, and Chris' first words back in the video were "it's just an absolute joke to me". So true Chris. I often tell friends that ask advice on VPNs that if they want your data they will probably get it. Not much point in spending however much a month to frustrate them while the get it.

I’m always tired of seeing VPN ads on YT. They make it seem like once you have a VPN you cannot be hacked.

This is one of if not the dumbest things to say about VPNs

Only reason I use a VPN is to get around restrictions. My school decided to put a really aggressive content filter on the network. It gets to the point where I can’t research properly, especially if it’s on drugs.

*listens to the overall message of this video* The song " Electric Eye" by Judas Priest began silently ( yet volume slowly growing ) in the back of my head

I get ya man. It has been a long ride since windows 3.1, and I am tired.

Peace brother. I do enjoy your videos. Thanks for that.

Just the fact that those VPN-companies throw with money to advertise on every YouTube-channel which will take them - even small and starting and non-tech channels - tells me that it is fishy.

When you said "obscurity doesn't bring security" that made a whole lot of sense. A lot of times hiding in plain sight is the best way. You're better off just sticking to Google and blending in. You just gained a lot of respect points in my book for just cutting the bs and telling it how it is.

I honestly gave up bothering to try and keep my data private. As you said, doing so is severely inconveniencing yourself. You can only do so much, and it's practically impossible to escape it completely.
I use a VPN because my ISP blocks some of the sites I use. Also region locked stuff, and it can improve my ping at times too. They don't really protect you.

the thing I liked about private internet access was they actually encouraged you to set your own shit up.. like they were their marketing model was about these are the tools to do this, and it wasn't just sign up for a service and you're fine.. it's a real bummer, cuz obviously I mean fuck, lowest common denominator weakest chain etc.. that company just bought a lot of data though, all they have to do is just flip things around a little bit log a few IPS they won't logging before, don't have to tell anybody either, cuz they could do individual subsidiaries but I think we all learned from Nord that you can completely fuck your entire business and your customers and still come back as a password manager :-) and everybody's forgotten.

Great video Chris! But why not mention Tails or similar projects, at least for private use case scenarios? VPNs were always kind of pointless, since as you mentioned people use social media and it's all pretty much telemetry in a nutshell.

one of the biggest issues to fix for your personal security and privacy is one that almost everybody overlooks; The constant ID10T warning coming through the users input device.

The thing I hate most is that the advertising for vpn and security goes to people who have no idea about tech and just believe anything an ad says. I have had to tell my wife many times the hard truth about stuff like that

I completely agree with this and have left comments on various channels over the past couple of years to the same effect. I can't see how it's possible to remain secure on the public internet beyond breaking into someone else's system and masquerading as them - everyone has to access it via an ISP who keeps a ton of information on you. After that you can obscure your tracks but analysts have and will continue to find ways around TOR or other obfuscation mechanisms. When all traffic is logged between all endpoints it's only a matter of time before the dots are joined. If you want true anonymity or security, don't use the internet. Don't use any form of digital communications because it's all being recorded by the surveillance state.

Chris on a rolling rant! :) Good luck finding me; I'm behind 10 proxies, 2 VPN's, everything is double-encrpyted using nonstandard algorithms, AND I used a super-secret password of a non-Earth language! I was also never here; and you never saw this comment.
