I think you may be more satisfied with a sturdy pole cemented into the ground! The leaning pole would make me crazy. I’m sure you would agree. Love your videos. 😎

I installed my dumb string lights with that same tension wire kit and the Meross smart plug. In HomeKit I paired the smart plug to my previously installed Lutron dimmer that controls the patio light fixture. This way I can use the Lutron light switch to turn my string lights on and off. So far it has worked great and been very reliable for the last year.

I was literally re-installing my string lights last night after a deck rebuild. With the new deck we looked at several different ways to hang the lights, including ready bought poles. We tried some but they didn’t withstand the tension of the lights. I used galvanized fence posts painted black (like goes on top of a chain link fence). In the end, I like the way I did it, but said to my wife, “someone should make a video about this.”

Something not mentioned in the video when choosing which smart plug/if you need dimming or not is to consider how close the lights will be to you in your specific situation. I have mine strung up in a relatively small sunroom so I went with the meross dimmer option and it works great with no connection dropouts in over a month of use.

I just bought the LIFX string lights and they look awesome. Each bulb has 3 zones so you can combine 3 colors to do some cool fx.

Found a string light set that was dimmable and a dimmer smart outdoor plug by Minostan which uses Z-wave. Now its connected to my smart home and is dimmable. Only downside is that the max and min brightness is a not the same as the string, but I can live with that.

So I have some string lights and I just got some string light poles. I installed the poles, but I wasn’t smart enough to think about the plug-in situation and I wondered if someone can give me some ideas if I was able to send a picture? 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Did you put links to the equipment you used?

A tension wire! We had our contractor set up some nets (to stop baseballs going to neighbors yards) and patio lights about a year ago. We did cement the polls 5’ into the ground leaving a 15’ above ground pole. We apparently installed tension wire for the nets but not for the patio lights and they are sagging big time. Sagging lights within a baseball area means more chances to hit lights (they only bat with hard foam balls, so it’s not too bad - only pitching practice warrants a real ball). We are using Atomi lights which were such a pain to program that I essentially use them as dumb lights with a Meross outdoor plug (soon to be Lutron as these become unresponsive every few months). I am very tempted to replace with something like the Nanoleaf lights. Please let me know us know how those lights hold up.

Do NOT connect your string lights to a tree. In high winds the tree will sway and if the other end of the wire is connected to your house, it will rip the connection off of the house. I have had to do repairs at two client's houses because they attached hanging wires from their trees to their house.

So he is gonna use a costume pole made by his brother? How stupid is that?

The nanoleaf lights are trash due to short life span. Check reviews.
