Should Minecraft Have More Tiers of Gear??? Game Design POV!

Does Minecraft need more tiers of armor and weapons? Well, no, it doesn't. However, Minecraft could definitely use it as long as it's done correctly. The nether update gave us a better material than diamond, and that would be netherite. It will likely be a very long time until we get armor and/or weapons that are better than netherite, but it is best to look far into the future to predict the longevity of Minecraft. The biggest issue with adding new stronger material types is that it causes the content already in the game to lose value. This issue is known as power creep.

From a game design perspective, I will be going over why Minecraft, Mojang, and their developers should make tool, weapon, and armor materials that are even better than netherite and the stronger materials that are to come. However, I will also show how the game's common mobs, enemies, and boss fights will still be just as difficult to take down even while advancing to better gear. Introducing adaptive damage and resistance caps that scale according to the player's gear level will come in and save the day! There are many games out there that use this method and are successful.

EDIT: It seems that detailed and in depth thumbnails actually make video performance worse. It is a little bit too early to call the fate of this video an hour and a half in, but I think it is justified to say that I should stick to the more pretty and visually appealing thumbnails than detailed ones.
Minecraft is obviously going to get less popular in the foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean that Minecraft is going to die. It will have its popularity surges too. However, if it goes down the path of either never adding new gear or adding new tiers of gear that cause power creep, Minecraft will likely never return to its extremely popular state.
Like the video to help spread it to more people's searches and recommendations, I think we could all appreciate that!

I agree exactly with the points you bring up in this video yet at 4:18 when you say Minecraft hasn't reached this point of being completely ruined by this setup I actually feel like it reached this point a while ago, and is one of the main reasons I personally am struggling to enjoy survival mode anymore.

Like you said, there is no strategical difference between the different armor types apart from being incremental upgrades in terms of stats from their weaker counterparts. The moment you get full iron gear you technically have everything you need to beat the game and there's generally no real motive to continue exploring and getting better gear as the game doesn't really evolve gameplay-wise from this point.

For example, what are wither skeletons but stronger zombies that also give you a wacky debuff?
What are zombie villagers but reskinned zombies?
What are magmacubes if not reskinned slimes?

Minecraft hasn't moved on past its boringly basic combat loop. You hit an enemy, they might hit you back if you're not fast enough and that's it.
Mojang were so close to fixing this with the evoker for example, as it had a different attack than just melee-ing you or shooting some projectile you could easily dodge.

There's a point in every standard playthrough where you get decent enchanted gear and no longer have to ask yourself whether you want to actually engage every time you're faced with an enemy as you can defeat them with little to no effort.
Luckily though the warden seems to be exact opposite of this, and will actually always be a danger to the player unless they are really careful.

Edit: I guess I'm trying to say there are no real stakes, there's no real disadvantage to using one tool over another and there's not enough gameplay variety between enemies.

My thought is that having harder dimensions that makes stronger gear useful, while also not affecting the overworld is the better way to go. There's more than just PVP. You got to think about every community in Minecraft. How annoying would it be trying to use Redstone and an incredibly powerful mob just to keep killing you? Or maybe the same thing but with building. Just because something is hard doesn't mean you disregard it. There's still a lot of people who enjoy that side of Minecraft. Damage caps and harder mobs would make it harder and less enjoyable for those types of players. The dimensions with stronger gear but also being harder to get would be a solution for the more experienced player. I'm terrible at PVP and I can hardly survive even with diamond armour so having something that is could defeat enemies so I can continue building would be helpful. Since there are so many different communities Mojang has to adhere to and give them what they want which is hard. Builders want objects that are more stylish and had fewer mechanics. Redstone might not even really care about the looks and only cares about the mechanics. While PVP players would only care about armour and weapons and entities and things to kill. It isn't easy having something stylish, something hard to kill, and something mechanically interesting In a single update. You may Want harder mobs or bigger bosses or more dimensions. While, someone else wants an easy life, being able to just build.

TL;DR Minecraft is too big to just focus on what a single community wants. The building community, the Redstone community, and even the command block community, all want to focus on their own thing and not have to worry about hard mobs. It's not just "put a damage cap" since people, like me, are bad at PVE/PVP and would want stronger items that would WORK on weaker mobs.

P.S. What would the purpose of having "stronger" gear if there is a damage cap, and you only do building or Redstone (which is a big part of the community)

Don’t add harder enemies, expand upon already established mobs and make them more complex, as well as the combat loop more complex. That way if you want to have more progression, both in terms of material tiers, and actual gameplay progression, you can have more complex and difficult (but not explicitly or always mechanically harder) enemies. Give the elytra a reason to be used in combat, maybe against flying mobs that dodge your arrows.

They’ve already expanded on combat quite a few times, like with shields and axes being given the ability to break shields for a little while as well as having more dmg but less speed than swords. So the precedent is set, they CAN and imo SHOULD just make combat more complex rather than adding greater and stronger tiers of armour/tools/weapons etc.

Tbh, the addition of new gear would really require the addition of more/harder content. Without it, gear is practically pointless. Just take Dreams’s speed runs for example. He’s literally running into the end of the game with nothing but a few beds.

Yeah if you're not a pro but a decent pvp player you dont need anything higher than a stone axe really
You can max out diamond gear in what, 2 hours of gameplay?
Isnt fun anymore, in the ol days it felt like an adventure.
Nowadays is so easy and boring that the only way to it to be fun is to play with friends or play technical minecraft.
Idk feel like it lacks content, but also i wouldnt like to just turn the gameplay like if it were minecraft with +100 mods?
