As a York native, Gettysburg has always overshadowed Civil War history in the area. My interest started when i finally decided to look up what happened to the Wrightsville bridge and has now expanded to this. Excellent presentation thank you!

Without info. From Jeb Stuart, didLee have any idea of how close the Union Calvary and infantry were to him in Pennsylvania? It would seem Lee would have consolidated his army

I love the book and all of the pictures contained therein. My in-laws reside on Blue Hill School Rd and I recognize the barn pictured there as well as barn as you are leaving Wellsville to the north that the Fickes' own now. My question is did the Confederates go south out of Carlisle through Mr. Holly Springs on what is now rt 34 or 94 or did they go over South Mountain on Whiskey Spring Rd?

General Mead, wasn’t going out of the way, and wasn’t going to be Surrounding, out flanked, that battle is a by the text book fight. Each Commander had fought as his best choices allowed, The last opportunity for less blood, was on day 3, Lee tried him, and Mead wasn’t going on any open way out. He stood and fought hard nose to nose. Lee by the book couldn’t not make the charge on Meads center, it only made text book sense. Who ever knew an engineer who don’t dot all i’s cross all tee’s by the rule, and the line of the letter? He ordered it bc it is and was by the book, Wellington, or Napoleon, Frederick too would have to do the same…. Why does 99 % of Gettysburg historian’s, disregard Gainsmill ? I suppose bc it’s the last major northern invasion, but maybe Washington City was more w yellow pants, when Genl Early came with in sight of the Capital Dome the Summer of 1864 ? . Casualties ? Gettysburg was a 3 day affair, it was serious Bussiness. … Please don’t get me misunderstood, I’m very glad someone has taken the time to give more to the story of the campaign. Cavalry on this battle field I mean Gettysburg. Wouldn’t be anything more than fighting as Buford on day one, or see it like this, Cavalrymen fighting at Shiloh battlefield. Sharpsburg battlefield, Fredericksburg battlefield. Get a idea 💡 ? Sometimes it’s not going to change much. Decatur GA the day of Peach tree creek, a General is killed, some skirmisher are moved around, it’s not going to mean much in the fighting around Atlanta. Screening ANV was kinda late, afternoon of July, 1. So the rest is how far can we see behind our enemies rear? The answer would have been, he is strong, and in force. So if Lee knew the exact #’s how would it have changed his decision’s ? Not much !

I have recently came to understand, as a raid the ANV came back to VA with more gains, than when they had entered PA, so perhaps those wagons was worth more, than has been thought. ? . Mistake’s are always made in each and every campaign, is it always to look for the reason No confederate victory or complete victory in PA ? To blame the Calvary? The biggest question is do people believe if the Calvary was up on the front of the frist day, Beford would have ran? And Ewell would have taken the ridge? So easy? I for many reasons strongly doubt much variation in differences of the entire 3 days engagement, W

Shows how incompetent and stupid Lee was. He should never have proceeded without the intelligence and aid he needed from Stuart; most certainly without knowing his fate. For all Lee knew Stuart and his 4, 500 were dead or captured along with battle plans and all else. What a nincompoop.
Stuart was probably the ablest of all the CSA generals. He had captured a huge payload and avoided certain defeat more than once.
