DIY guide for rebuild/repair valvetronic system on this BMW F10 535xi with N55B30 engine. This information can be used on BMW N20 also. We going to replace:

*Valvetronic eccentric shaft
*Valvetronic eccentric shaft bearings
*Valvetronic unit, which is integrated with hall effect sensors + the electric motor for the system, in one whole unit
*Fuel injectors (this is not required everytime)
*New valve cover gasket + some critical bolts and other bits

In this video we going to show, how this procedure should be done step-by-step. Removing of the valvetronic springs will be included.

Fault codes:

2A38 Valvetronic sluggish or open circuit
2A37 Valvetronic, eccentric shaft sensor: plausibility
2A47 Valvetronic, eccentric shaft sensor: plausibility
2A45 Valvetronic, actuator motor: plausibility
2A77 Control unit, internal fault: Valvetronic output stage
2A37 Valvetronic, actuator motor: power supply

Additional info about Valvetronic system:

The Valvetronic system is a BMW variable valve lift system which, in combination with variable valve timing, allows infinite adjustment of the intake valve timing and duration. The system claims to improve fuel economy and emissions, and negates the need for a throttle body in regular use.
First introduced by BMW on the 316ti compact in 2001, Valvetronic has since been added to many of BMW's engines. The first application of this technology in a turbocharged engine was the N55 engine.

Excellent work ... the shaft was replaced to match the gear on the valvetronic motor s pae BMW servics technical service bulletin . As a retired BMW tech with 38 years congratulations really superb work

Nice detailed DIY guys. Thanks for sharing. On my 335i I change the oil and filter every 12.000 km. So in the middle of what the car recommends. Thanks for sharing, Dutch regards, Nico.

It is such a great video and thorough explanation & guidance step by step.

Questions:
1.
Do I need to disconnect the battery(negative & positive) prior to pulling out the Valveteonic motor and eccentric shaft?

2. The Valvetronic was replaced by a local shop however they couldn't process valvetronic adaptation as error codes couldn't be deleted, 2D43 and 2D41. Not sure they even replaced it correctly.
Will these codes be deleted automatically and will I be able to process adaptation if I replace both valvetronic motor and eccentric shaft?

DME seems working fine as it functions other adjustment such as DSC adaptation and others.

Your comments would be much appreciated.

Thought you had to put It into learning mode to find it's upper and lower limits for the valvetronic or ya get issues

I’m working on a 2013 535i. Sometimes I’ll get misfire codes on 1, 2, 3 and sometimes it will be on 4, 5, 6. It will start but I have to hold it at 3000rpm otherwise it will cut off. Also I’m getting an air mass code.

Nice job, you had to replace injectors, did you program them ? I heard that some values much be programmed in.

Why did you only inspect and rebuild the upper part of the mechanism, and not the lower rockers?

One little correction, the torque for pulling the injector out it's 13 nm not 5nm. Keep up the great work.
I saw you also on a oil discussion forum. From your experience what oil (brand and specs) do you believe works best with this engine. Thanks!

Hello, I followed the video to change the valvetronic motor.
To calibrate the motor, place it against the minimum stop (on the left, opposite the motor).
I did the same, but after reassembly it was impossible to calibrate the valvetronic motor stops.
Is this calibration ok?
