Excellent sermon! Yes, emotionalism and experience are the hallmarks of most modern Christian churches. There is no follow up or self examination afterwards and no prayer to ask God to reveal the innermost faults. “One & Done” counts for nothing. Real Christianity is a continuing process and a life long practice.

You nailed it on the feminizing of the church today. It's all about the experience, the programs, the activities, what can the church do for me, the rock concert "worship" experience, ect... The sensor seeker movement is what I see as the largest movement. Got to keep the goats/unchurched entertained and busy doing good works. All about me, me, me, and then maybe at the end Christ.

when you say it like that, “were you sincere enough” it sounds a lot like what drives some of the charismatic movement. When the charismatic movement says “did you have enough faith for a miracle”.

I have struggled with this SO MUCH. I have been afraid of not knowing a specific date of when I was saved or not having a radical moment of change. I have had to learn that it is not a date or an experience that saves, but Christ and Christ alone.

My mother, born in 1924, "went forward" in a revival when she was 16. I never was convinced of her devotion to Jesus. She seemed to be devoted to her church building and their social group there. I saw her parents praying, sharing Bible & daily devotions and serving others tirelessly, so was convinced of their sincerity, but not so sure about hers.

We need a Nineveh reformation. That's a God ordained "revival."

Baptist culture seems so closely tied to revivalism, it's hard for me to unseen it now.

I'm with you about sincerity. It's may be what ignites faith in some way, but it is perseverance that is the sustaining commitment that maintains faith through working with the spirit. When you are drawn to God you are fastened to Him, as a DRAWBAR is locked/fastened to my truck. It is not a feel good wooing. At times what ever is attached to the drawbar hits a rough road and gets bounced around just like I do, but I persevere and stay drawn. He keeps me as I am His, who has done the drawing.

Sweet to my ears. So much is wrong in church today that when you speak the truth you look and sound to be the wrong one

If you see this, I live in NC and I’m looking for a good church. The largest towns near me are Gastonia and Shelby. We are also close to Gaffney SC. If you have a network of churches you could recommend I would appreciate it.

I agree with you on this Joel, It seems that that similar arguments can be applied for believers baptism?

I was raised Baptist but could never really understand the purpose of baptism. Currently leaning very heavily pedobaptist, the arguments for it take all of scripture into account and make much more sense to me.

I do not understand why from a reformed perspective, you would think it's a good idea to have baptism be a Choice?

Charles Finney was a great man .... Just kidding - I totally agree what was said here in the sermon. The Finney stuff with the excitements, and emotionalism could lead to spiritual abuse. It's not good. So glad I clicked and watched this 😊.
