Nothing beats Dracula. He may not have been the first, but he is the best. He combines all the scariest, most mysterious and iconic elements of the vampire into one, while having a largely unintentional but intriguing link to a real historical figure who was even more terrifying.

I liked how the novel "Interview With A Vampire" went into depth about how it feels to turn into a vampire, and the first experience of having to claw into the soil with bare hands to escape the Sun.

You actually gave him his mustache. Thank you. It's a small detail that many forget.

My favourite version of the vampire has to be the predatory vampires from Steve Niles' 30 Days of Night series. Unlike virtually every vampire story from good ol' Dracula to Twilight's sparkly vampires, it's the only one I can think of (other than The Strain's strigoi) where the vampires are depicted not as seducers/seductresses but more as a distinct species of human that see humans as food and nothing else, just like a real predator-prey relationship. In Niles' own words "what if they don't want to seduce you; what if you're just a resource to them?"

Hmm... Monstrum publishes an episode on Dracula, and Eons publishes one on bats... coincidence? ;)

Turning to mist, not having a reflection, having to be staked in the heart, yes, yes, yes. Those are all traits of Dracula. But you didn't mention any of his traits as a person. Like his hobbies. For example, he takes enthusiastic walks through the park.

I just watched “The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires”, a 1974 collaboration between the British Hammer studio and Hong Kong’s Shaw Brothers. It’s a Kung fu vampire movie filmed entirely in Hong Kong and starring Peter Cushing as Van Helsing. It’s as ridiculous and glorious as it sounds!

I would have to say that my favorite vampires would have to be Dracula and Alucard from the Castlevania series. They are two amazing vampires and their history and dynamics between then in certain games and videos is purely heavenly.

It's so fascinating to me how vampires are an amazing example of how folklore, mythology, and legends change through the lens in which they are observed. Honestly, watching this series (and this entire channel in general) brings my literature-obsessed self so much serotonin.

Dracula is one of my favorite characters of fantasy/mythology.

If you were to do a video about werewolves, and how they have changed over time, that would be amazing. I LOVE werewolves.

What I found interesting is that the element tellurium was first discovered in Romania. Signs of tellurium poisoning includes: garlicky breath, terrible thirst/dry mouth, lack of sweating, and metallic taste in the mouth.
