Great chemistry from the presenters, this had the vibe of old school Top Gear with Hammond, May and Clarkson having a bit of fun.

My renegade is almost identical to the one they tested. I tell you what, when i went out to buy a new car, i wanted to get a car. I was looking for something that was good on gas, good in snow, and dependable. I want thinking truck or SUV, I was thinking Awd little car. I left with a renegade because it had more than I wanted but was also cheaper than a Subaru that I was also looking at. This "little guy" passes most traffic in Canadian snow storms, and can go from 75 down the interstate to a muddy path in a snap without pissing away your gas. I does everything I NEED it to do.

Im pretty happy with my little Renegade. It handled really well in the snow last winter when my friends were getting stuck it drove through it like it was nothing.

What all of the people here don't understand, is that these are city suvs. They are not supposed to be a wrangler. But they are better than most of the city suvs offroad. And thats the end of it.

Compass looks like a mini grand Cherokee

I want to see a top of the line most expensive renegade vs the cheapest base wrangler.

I have a 2018 trailhawk compass and I’ve taken it off roading. I had no issues at all, I was able to keep up with my buddies who where driving a Tacoma, and Tundra. 😏👌

For Michigan commuting the jeep renegade has been fun. Love the snow mode.

I can’t get enough of these goldmine videos along with all your off road videos. My favorite channel on YouTube by far.

Will you guys ever turn traction control off? It's really a shame you are not using these 4x4s as they were designed to be off road. For instance from the Compass user manual pages 137-138:

Partial Off (Four-Wheel Drive Models) Or On (TwoWheel
Drive Models)
This mode is entered by momentarily pushing the “ESC
Off” switch. When in “Partial Off” mode, the TCS portion
of ESC, except for the “limited slip” feature described in
the TCS section, has been disabled, and the ESC OFF
Indicator Lightwill be illuminated. All other stability
features of ESC function normally. This mode is intended
to be used if the vehicle is in deep snow, sand or gravel
conditions, and more wheel spin than ESC would normally
allow is required to gain traction.
To turn ESC on again, momentarily push the “ESC Off”
switch. This will restore the normal “ESC On” mode of
operation.
NOTE: To improve the vehicle’s traction when driving
with snow chains, or starting off in deep snow, sand or
gravel, it may be desirable to switch to the “Partial Off”
mode by pushing the “ESC Off” switch. Once the situation
requiring ESC to be switched to the “Partial Off” mode is
overcome, turn ESC back on by momentarily pushing the
“ESC Off” switch. This may be done while the vehicle is in
motion.

Full Off (Four-Wheel Drive Models Only)
This mode is intended for off-highway or off-road use
when ESC stability features could inhibit vehicle maneuverability
due to trail conditions. This mode is entered by
pushing and holding the “ESC Off” switch for five seconds
when the vehicle is stopped and the engine is running.
After five seconds, the ESC OFF Indicator Lightwill
illuminate and the “ESC OFF” message will appear in the
odometer. Push and release the Trip Odometer button
located on the instrument cluster to clear this message.
In this mode, ESC and TCS, except for the “limited slip”
feature described in the TCS section, are turned off until the
vehicle reaches a speed of 35 mph (56 km/h). At 35 mph
(56 km/h), the system returns to “Partial Off” mode, as
described above. TCS remains off. When the vehicle speed
drops below 30 mph (48 km/h), the ESC system shuts off.
ESC is deactivated at low vehicle speeds so that it will not
interfere with off-road driving however, ESC function
returns to provide the stability feature at speeds above
35 mph (56 km/h). The ESC OFF Indicator Lightwill
always be illuminated when ESC is off.
To turn ESC on again, momentarily push the “ESC Off”
switch. This will restore the “ESC On” mode of operation.

New sub. I am saving up for a renegade. Planning on buying one at the end of the year. My mom has a 2017 one, and it is so nice.

I really like that for this test you guys slowed down to actually test the 4x4 system before using momentum to get up. Awesome job!

I have a 2016 Renegade and I do not go off-roading. It, however, handles these Western New York snow storms like a champ( with Nokian snow tires)! :)

Thanks for making this video. An off road comparison between the Renegade and the Compass is exactly what I wanted to see! I'd like to see a comparison between the old 2008-2012 Liberty vs current Cherokee Trailhawk.

We took our compass TH stock through a rocky 30% grade in low rock mode, no slippage and made it first time. We take it in UTV trails and have no issues. The 2.4 engine burns a lot of oil.

I really liked this video. The charisma between all of you is great, and the filming and layout is also wonderful. Great video! :)

I chose a Renegade Latitude because I didn't want the 9 speed transmission. Instead I got the 1.4 Turbo with the 6 speed stick. It has made me proud in heavy snow and gets great mileage. Is has 20 horsepower less than the 2.4L but 20 Ft lbs. more torque. The six speed really adds to the fun factor, and it was a lot cheaper than the Trail Hawk. In fact I was looking for an ATV, and by the time I optioned one out my Renegade was cheaper.

this made me appreciate my renegade so much more, i knew it was great when i was passing other 4x4 on the road during snow storms but this just settles it for me

Great video. I'm surprised and disappointed with the Trailhawks performance. :(

Edit: another commenter mentioned rock mode intentionally behaves this way to prevent damage, and either mud or and mode would allow tires to spin. Since jeep promo videos show much worse than this, I'm thinking the mode selection is to blame.
