as x -> -5 from positive
the f(x) -> +infinity
as x -> -5 from.negative
the f(x) -> -infinity

everything from -5 toward + yields a curve from + infinity that remains positive as f(x) asymptotically -> 0

conversely, from x=-5 toward negative x the curve remains negative
