The goal of the Party is not just to crush opposition, but to erase the thought of opposition from the people's minds. Books get in the way of that.

It boils down to one thing. "If it doesn't match my lifestyle, I want you to be banned from reading it."

David, I am a retired librarian. I dealt with this shit for over 30 years.

Hello from Toronto. Toronto has a very extensive public library system which recently introduced a Sanctuary Collection highlighting books that are being banned in Florida and elsewhere in the United States.

FFS, they banned a book about baseball great Roberto Clemente!

You know a political party has lost their mind when they consider books in schools to be more dangerous than guns in schools. Anyway, keep up the great work, David!!

Don’t the banners know that the best way to motivate a kid to read a book is to ban it?

This thing isn’t about banning pornography. It’s about controlling ideas. People who don’t want black history taught or that slavery existed and still exists or that LGBTQ people have human rights like everyone else. And above all else, they sadly prefer to be told what to think rather than just do so independently and believe that everyone else should as well.

I personally think if my child is curious enough to go to a library and search out a book and actually read it, that's awesome and wonderful. If they have any questions or thoughts about said book, bring it. Let's talk about it. It grows your brain space and helps you become a better and more curious and empathetic person.

I used to work at an academic library. Some librarians traveled to Russia— ALL the books were kept away from patrons who had to request books, which might not be approved. And those requests were certainly documented.
Is this what Americans want??!!

Oh My God!!! I am making talking about this my thing! People don't realize the books that are being banned. My town is having a schoolboard election. I tried to talk to the candidates about it. They're clueless or worse, they talk about religion. Fahrenheit 451, Toni Morrison's books, the books they want banned are books we used to do book reports on. Florida is pulling books about black ballplayers! Crazy! I don't want books banned.

When I was 13 a friend gave me a book to read called Reds. Sex and drugs a young girl gets exposed to and involved with in hs. My mom saw it and obviously flipped through it. She said, when you finish that I want to talk about it. When I did I told her and we talked about my thoughts on the characters and content. No freak out or lecture or threats. I came away feeling empowered that my assessment ( they were not who I wanted to be) was taken seriously by my mom but also learning how easy it was to get sucked into that world by other kids, an actual learning experience.
Banning books is an abdication of parental responsibility to raise their own children and trying to blame schools for their incompetence or laziness.
Btw I was a TA with special Ed and all hs subjects as a retirement job . The idea kids are combing through the library trolling for these books to read I hysterically funny. Even the smart kids use spark notes to avoid reading actual books.

The bible definitely isn't age appropriate for pre-teens and teens. Too much sex and violence and moral depravity.

I went to the library when i was 13 and took out the Happy Hooker. I even had to ask for it and she had it in a seperate room. Guess what i grew up normal. Didnt become a prostitute, didnt take drugs. Got married, became a mother. They want just to control our lives.

Most people who support banning books have been told about one sentence or paragraph from a book. Those who read the entire book and know the context of the story/information usually support keeping the book on the shelves.

"Books are stupid", I had a real, live adult human say that to me, it was the exact moment in time where I realized humanity is doomed and we will deserve it.

When I was 13, I heard the word “homosexual” used on TV news. I didn’t know what it meant. There was nothing in the school library in the card catalog. I finally looked it up in the dictionary. That was in 1968.

I hope we don’t go back to those days.

If your kid has access to the internet….. they have already seen it all!!! ( and more!)

I’ve bought a couple of books that were banned. Neither of them had sex in it all. In fact, I will pass them along to my nieces who, by the way, have 2 mothers.

The fact is that a lot of parents are too busy to pay attention to what their kids are doing. They depend on everyone but themselves to teach their kids.

Like many have said, removing some books from schools is one thing but the government banning books from libraries or booksellers is DANGEROUS! Have people simply forgotten about history?
