Trying AI for my writers block I found that the text it churned out was... lets say lacking. But as a help for getting ideas, "discussing" chapters, plots, character development, keeping things in line and not forgetting crucial plot points its a marvel! I try to see AI more as an administrative/creative assistant that helps me keep things in order, suggest what one thing I write in chapter 4 could be used as a setup for a payoff in chapter 17. How to actually keep every idea floating around my head like butterflies be put down in a semblance of order. To explore what I actually could do with the whole story. Without it writing a word of prose. That would be my job. But it helps me with chapters, plots, scenes, characters and summarizes in points my sometimes rambling notes about what I want to achieve with the book, chapter or scene. Which in turn is a great help to be able to write afterwards since you can make sure you get everything with you when writing.

Art is intent. And AI lacks it. Therefore it's your job to steer AI towards intent.

I'm using AI to learn about my own writing. It gives me suggestions for refinements, explains me why they work and whether they're optional or recommended. I can ask it why a word or phrase in the suggested refinement works better than what I wrote, and about things I don't know in the English language since it's not my first language. The way I use it, the AI doesn't "fix mistakes" for me; it enhances my already strong lines while respecting my voice and vision (no rewriting and writing of the AI itself). AI is a very useful tool for new writers, especially if they're willing to use it to learn about their own writing

I've been writing with ChatGPT for about 4 months now. My prompt book is around 160 pages long. Goal is to make fiction writing more accessible to my autistic younger brother, and maybe even get him published down the line. This video gave me good ideas about parts of my workflow I've been missing. Thank you!!

On this title: the first part of this sentence should also be the last part of the sentence. It should be the whole sentence.

What if I use chatgpt to rewrite what I wrote? I write the passages on word the paste into chatgpt with the prompt, rewrite this passage. And it makes everything I wrote sound better and the spacing is good and it skips the lines to separate the paragraphs. Fix any spelling errors and structure everything it even uses better words. So it kinda functions as an editor, then I make sure that my passage conveys what I want it then I copy and replace what In word. Also if I wrote out a section but I got a little stuck on how it should end off is confused about an interaction I want my characters to have but the way I wrote it sounds a little odd when I do that chatgpt makes it sound a lot more easier. Should I do that, or is it the same as having the ai write a story for you? I consider my book original I've been planning and attempting to write it for years now I was finally able to do it using chatgpt to make it sound good. It's a little depressing to know that I can't publish it because I copied from chatgpt even though I wrote the words and asked chatgpt to rewrite what I wrote better.

AI is a long way from writing books, although it can assist with various elements of book writing. Videos like this highlighting the pitfalls of too much reliance on AI to be one's magic wand are spot on.

AI will not make anyone into an author. It's only good at vomiting words onto the page. That doesn't mean it's worthless, on the contrary, I use it quite a bit, but you need to know what you can and can't do with it. I'm glad you point out the pitfalls of relying too heavily on AI. Too many YouTuber's try to lie through their teeth and promise you'll passively make hundreds of thousands of dollars selling AI written trash. The truth is the term "starving artist" applies to authors more than any other field. There are more than 20 million books on Amazon. The market is so incredibly flooded that your chances of anyone even noticing your book without word of mouth advertising is virtually non-existent. The majority of authors work full time jobs and write on the side because they love it. I'm one of those.
The industry is feast or famine. You'll have months (and sometimes even years) where your books don't sell at all, and then others where your books sell like hotcakes, and you have very impressive numbers. Just realize that when a YouTuber gives you those kinds of numbers they are cherry picking them from this feast / famine cycle so that you'll watch their videos.
It's the dream to be able to write for a living, but the cold truth is that is as likely as me becoming one of the heroes in my story. It's not impossible, but it's definitely not something you want to plan your life around.
