My Root philosophy is “never let anyone get too far ahead or too far behind, except yourself”. Both for a fun game, and for the reason others have outlined: all the factions are there for a reason, to keep everyone else in check.

I find RC does this move frequently in the Digital Edition where there isn't adset and I've no idea what to even do about countering it other than accepting that they will not let me have a game in that match.

Also, if you let the cats build their buildings and stockpile wood tokens, that's more potential cardboard for you to score from. They can't do that if you sabotage them too early.

This actually happened very early in my group. The player didn't successfully destroyed the keep (as luckily, the cat player has at least one matching suit of card to hospitalize the casualties) but he became hostile on the get go, limiting his movements for the rest of the game and just got karma all throughout for instigating an early aggression.

Yeah, I don't understand that behavior
Cats aren't an active threat
They are usually just a background timer and if worked around correctly they can hem in and clog up other players
And worse comes to worse you have to do the battles to score the points

But VG or otter turn 1 keep rushes are stupid

This should be required viewing for Root online players before being able to pick the fighty Vagabonds...and also for Otter players.

While I am in agreement with this, there is an easy work around for #1; Ally with Cats. Then march them out of the Keep. Then come back in and destroy all cardboard. That being said, #2 & 3 are more than enough reasons to keep the Keep on the board...for now.

If you can destroy the keep, what the mechanics that makes it so the cats can’t fully get removed? As far as I have seen, every faction has a mechanic that allows them to comeback if all their pieces are removed.

New to game so just a small question: You say removing the keep token ‘takes cats out of the game’ doesn’t removing the keep essentially just take away the field hospital ability? Or is it if the keep is removed cats are just unable to score any more victory points? Could they not still got for a dominance victory?

The Vagabond is so OP. One man army can absolutely cripple any faction. Their my go to when teaching a game because I can keep the game in check and help out those who need it with aid.

Do not hamstring the Marquise early on, let them be a force for sherriffing others. As a Vagabond your should always be more of a mediator for the militaristic and insurgency factions.

Played a game yesterday mid game the cats moved all their cats out of the keep thinking it was safe. I spent a slip and 2 boots got in there took out a sawmill and the keep. The very next turn i traded with them for a crossbow and made them an ally. Next turn I crossbowed another cat, took out another 2 more building, then i did my 4th mouse quest to win the game. Haha.

Sounds like a skill issue. I saw a vagabond at 16 points turn 3 thanks to decimating the cats.
It took all 3 players to stop the vagabond. SO NO NITRO, VAGABOND IS FOR MURDER HOBOS.(if they choose to be XD)
