Nuclear Energy: Dividing the EU Club?

France gets most of its power from nuclear fuel, while Germany plans to shut down its last reactors next year. How can nuclear fuel help towards net zero, how safe is it and what will a decision either way mean for the European Union?

How ironic that Dorfman is sitting in a hotel in Paris and 70% of the electricity he is consuming during the interview came from nuclear power.

Mr Havercaps is wrong. Of course you need to compare nuclear with coal, because every shut down nuclear power plant will be replaced by coal.

With a future of climate change and a simultaneous massive increase in electric cars, we are looking at a bleak future of outrageous electricity prices and massive rolling blackouts without nuclear.

We need a base load of power. Being Scottish I know my country is rather short sighted.

Hypocrisy moment that made me almost puke:
8:58 "Nuclear advocates are a powerful lobby group inserting themselves parasitically into the discussion and there are problems with the nuclear industry with the lobby in government" <blink blink blink>

Question: Wouldn't you expect fossil fuel and renewable companies doing the same thing? Yet, you seem to regard the nuclear industry doing the same thing with distaste?

10:05 "Well. I mean, I think everyone is trying to do their best." <blink blink blink>

Okay, so:
Pro-nuclear advocacy = problematic industry lobbying
Renewable/fossil fuel industry doing the same thing = well...they are just doing their best

This couldn't be more blatant. Also, it's not the industry that is advocating for nuclear. There are grass roots groups and climate scientists advocating for nuclear power alongside renewables. The guy dismissing his opponents as 'a powerful nuclear lobby' (which compared to either renewables or fossil fuels is absolutely laughable) is just a sign of having a dogmatic ideology that does not consider opposing views with any shred of legitimacy, even when it comes to whether the people behind it are doing it on good faith...no...they are all just in for the money. This is no different to the mentality of climate change deniers accusing climate change scientists of just trying anything to get more funding for their "fake" research.

17:10 Also, when being called on the fact that the anti-nuclear lobby is way bigger than the pro-nuclear lobby,
now suddenly the lobbying doesn't matter anymore. You cannot make this up.

Also, final point...somehow the nuclear industry is a dying industry while having a powerful lobby at the same time?
They seemingly want to have both the "David.v.Goliath" and narratives simultaneously.

The environmentalists say nuclear is just too expensive. Thorium advocates are saying we will replace coal fired plants at a lower cost with SMR reactors which are molten salt with a molten core that cannot melt down, it is already molten and we are striving to make thorium reactors cheaper than coal. Sweet. And renewable for thousands of years and clean. It can also burn the nuclear waste from pwrs which still have 95% of the fuel still in the rods.

You are all talking about Nuclear without bringing up the New Era Nuclear Power plants called SMR Small modular Reactors. That use Triso Fuel. Look it up

!sure ... we are voting "phase-out" of nuclear forms of energy ... whether it's throughout europe and ?a question of ... money talks
