its probably the oxygen.The organisms were most likely in a hybrinative state until the resources of its environment became habitable.

Well they obviously didn't bother keeping the place clean. If you don't clean your home it can develop fungus and bacterial colonies.

i wonder, could they have put on masks, and flooded the station with ozone to kill off the mold and other bacteria and then introduced fresh air from tanks to control smell and sickness
