And it’s put on the American citizens to protect themselves…… How about we start holding corporations responsible? How about we reach ACTUAL ACCOUNTABILITY……

There are only 300+ million Americans, how are there 2.9 billion Social security numbers? CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT should be filed against NATIONAL PUBLIC DATA. As well, ANY company or corporation that holds anyone's data when they are no longer with that company or have any business dealings with the previous company should also face a class action lawsuit if there was a data breach. This is happening FAR too frequently and causes a great havoc and financial loss on the individuals affected by this egregious abuse of not protecting one's private and critical information such as the social security details! Americans are already under stress and this is compounding it even more.

A more appropriate term is Social insecurity at this point.

Going to have to show your birth certificate and social security card like the old days to prove who you are. "The originals" not some just printed crap

So what, I'm an underpaid, overworked construction worker in California. If my identity gets stolen, trust me, they'd give it right back!

Maybe it’s time to get rid of these numbers and go by our identity

Why wasn’t this information? Encrypted? Use it on all the federal paperwork identifications. Stupid stupid stupid.

IRS has a wonderful way to keep people from ordering credit cards and you having to pay for that. It’s called, non collection status. Even if they get credit under your name, you don’t have to pay for it under this status.
