This week Tony and Chris are joined by a bitter rival Johnny Hollander to discuss 1889.  While this one may not see a lot of play around here any more, we take the time to dive deep on it!

1889 has been a great entry point for me. I remember being surprised at how easy the rules were to digest. After 4 plays of this, I still feel like there's a lot to learn before I really venture out, but it's been a blast. Now here I am subscribing to 18xx channels!

(BTW, our first game took 5-6 hrs with rules teach, other games have been online)

One shenanigan that I think is unique to 1889 is the rule on selling down stocks to get money for an emergency train buy. In almost every other 18XX (including 1830), you can sell down to switch the presidency of any company you're president of other than the one you're buying a train for. In 1889, you can't switch the presidency on ANY company you hold in emergency stock shares sales. That's the only time I went bankrupt when I had two trainless companies and was going to dump one on someone else raising money for the first and then I remembered that rule and called myself on it! LOL
Also, I'm with Tony and Jonny on using a regular set of track tiles with the Carthiginian map. That's what I did too.

For a priority deal marker, Josh from Grand Trunk Games gave me a model train from Japan!

18XX is something you don't google... LMAO.
Unfortunately this was the first I've heard about Traxx, and I see all of the tickets are already sold. If you have any people request refunds, let me know.
