My dad purchased a portable iii, the earlier version of the same chassis with a 286 processor. It was limited to 640k of memory, but I did install windows 3.0 on it. After staring at the orange gas plasma display for 30+ minutes then looking away you would see the screen but green. I have many fond memories of that pc as it was the first pc I ever really used outside of an apple iie.

My dad had 3 of those that he bought at an auction for £10 about 15 years ago. Sadly he threw them away

My very first portable PC. I used this portable lunchbox back in the late 80's to early 90's on our SLC and PLC driven applications when working for GP.

880Enjoyable video. Liked that you showed the era it was created in, gives it meaning.

I clicked on your advert while in an 8 bit guy video. I totally thought you were selling a repro of this luggable and was interested in the $14k price tag.

I subscribed because of this video, because it was insanely great and informative, now I want that portable!

I used one of these at work for nearly a year. Total bricks, but loved it. Have one that doesn’t completely work now, but hoping to fix it or put a small PC motherboard inside to work with the plasma screen somehow.

What a hoot... I actually have two of these zipped up in their travel bags in my garage right now from my old job!

Nice, brings back memories of the one I scored from work for nix, I ended up giving it away to a bloke who wanted to use it as a serial terminal to access some unix machine. I was encouraged to 'move it on' as it seemed to suck power like there was no tomorrow, as in the heat that pored out of its case was bordering on ridiculous. The best part had to be that display. Pity I never knew they cost so much new. Me being in Australia means you could all but double the prices quoted in the video.
