My mac book pro 2012 would not open after i updated it with Sierra last week, so I called the apple care line where I spent 2 hours on the phone with a customer service agent who well told me that she had to go and that i need to carry on on my own, that we tried pretty much everything!!!! I then went onto youtube, found your video, followed the instructions and now I have a clean well functioning machine in one that we have to get help from people on youtube and that apple is not event able to help themselves...amazing....thank you Gadget God!

I needed to reset to factory settings my MacBook Pro (2014) which I gave to my niece. I couldn't figure out how to do so. I'm pretty computer savvy when it comes to PCs but Macs are obviously a different ball game! I found your video through a Google search. It worked and really helped! Thanks a million!!!

I’m a geek. I ‘should’ know how to do this, as a 44 year old, life long Apple (& Windows) user and ...subscriber for a couple decades to the ‘geek rags’ MaxPC, MacFormat/MacLife, PC ...the list goes on. I’ve had my 2012 15” rMBP now for a solid 3 years, 3 months and the A/C is exhausted yet the rig runs circles around most anything I’ve used recently or since. It’s just a solid rig! BUT --- it’s the ‘first’ of the newer rigs without a disc to fall back on (the ½ decade leading up to this 2012 purchase was with 17” machines only)... and ultimately, restore the machine for re-sale, charity or family.
You. Rock! Four Minutes, Easier than I imagined (figured I’d have to D/L an iso somewhere, ‘pretend’ to own software I’ve never ‘actually purchased’ ...as this came with, I believe 10.9 --- Mavericks maybe? Doesn’t matter. Didn’t have disc. It’s now on 10.11.2 (El Captian) and just ‘thinking’ about the process put me off a couple of weeks because I dreaded the ‘run around’. All OS updates, as I’m sure our videographer is aware, have been gratis/free since the purchase of this particular MBP and I wasn’t sure if purchasing the original OS was something I’d have to do through the App Store.
Anyone curious about restoring/selling their used carefully Mac Hardware, I’ll say this top and bottom, this video can’t be beat. It’s straight forward, nicely narrated, obvious what he’s discussing and as simple as it gets.
10/10 ...actually, gonna ding ya;) 9.78/10. You refer initially to the correct ‘Command’ key with ‘R’ held powering on. However, after the initial Command ‘command’ from your voice, you refer to CMD as CNTRL or ‘Control Key’ at least three times. Never referring or correcting your syntax. For those of us without visual impairments, it’s obvious. For those reliant on their auditory senses and without optical abilities, this MAY confuse as you do ‘switch’ after the initial ‘push power, immediately hit CMD-R and hold while I speed ahead (sic) so you don’t have to wait I’m gonna continue holding ‘CTRL-R’ until the (utilities) this screen pops up.”
...as a videographer myself, again I applaud your genius in sharing and making my life much less miserable...but I sympathize as well:) --- unless you’ve still got it saved and you can bounce an audio track in referencing ‘CMD’ vs ‘CNTRL’ without removing anything ---- just a quick, “oops” lol.

Kick Ass! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and now what the heck to do with this beast! Truly, 30 years of computing starting on the Apple IIe has led me through much hardware both in the office and in the studio/on the go. This singular purchase definitely brought my passion back to one that was straying with the advent of the iPad the iPhone, and their incredible abilities as time continued to progress (In 2012, we had the A6x dropped in to the iPad 4, making it the second, kind of controversial iPad drop in a year with a ‘motor’ finally able to manipulate the HiDPI display of the ‘retina-iced’ iPad 4 following the spring drop of the ‘new’ iPad, one I quickly dropped at the 4’s announcement. Buying the iPad 4, I was at the Apple store and they had a single 2.7GHz (8MB cache, only CPU in the stable with the extra 2MB!), 16GB of RAM, Intel4000/nVidia 650m and 768 glorious GB of Solid State storage {pre PCIe and the speeds of the last couple years, their gains| --- my first all SSD system, the HiDPI display on my eyes and the jaw dropping colors, phenomenal speeds of the CPU and GPU as well as the continuation of Mavericks through Yosemite/ElCap, the handoff, continuity features with my iPad and iPhone aggregation and integration has been second to none.

My wife and I run a business based solely on Apple, iPads and iPhones in the field and with the employees, MacBooks as their ‘source’ ...but the iPad Pro being tested in the field as we speak to replace said MacBooks ...as their a bit less money, significantly ‘tougher’, and MUCH better on battery and portability. ...not to mention, with my job, literally the ‘perfect companion’ after 30 years of trying to force a round stick through a triangular -- half drilled receptacle!

Enough of the banter. My point is this 2012 15” 4 pound rMBP literally turned my life 180 degrees around. I truly LOVED computing again. I smiled each time I turned it on, loaded or updated a program/software/app (we’re blessed with a Gigabit download/100MB upload option with our local, Alaskan ISP!) ---it’s speed, it’s gorgeous display and phenomenal battery life (for the time!) to this day makes it an impossibility to part with. I’ve seen the prices offered and amazingly their still nabbing 55-70% of initial retail and sale prices nearly 3 and ½ years ago.

While I do continue to keep a Windows rig around specifically for Quickbooks, I’ve NEVER in my life ....even the days I was dumb enough to configure an Alienware $5, 000 machine (before kids!), have I been able to fetch even 50% 24 months later ...when selling my Win rigs. Hence, I’ve replaced the ones that need to be with less expensive, do the trick machines...until I discovered Bootcamp/Parallels and it’s progress made over the last ½ decade! Lol --- The HP 2 in 1 13” core i5/128GB SSD will not be replaced by a Win rig. I’ve found the retina MacBook Pro; 13 or 15”, pick your poison ...to be a better Windows machine than ANY Win OEM I’ve tried to date (especially the trackpad!) Unfortunately without the active graphic switching if you’re going to use your Mac for Windows primarily, your best off without the discrete option on the 15”, just stick with the Intel Iris Pro (damn fine graphics too!) models and save many dollars on the 15” (1999 retail, easy to find for a couple hundred off, or even 3-400 on Apple’s Refurb site). The 13” doesn’t offer the 6/750m or the latest AMD processor as discreet option, so you’re good on the 13” to run ‘em both without concern (I’ve noticed better battery life with Win 10 by a good 12-15% margin over running Win 8.1 on Parallels on earlier mentioned machine...)

Can’t sell it. Can’t --- it’s just too cool. Will be moving down the line to my teenage son, see how he treats a nice machine and we can decide what college will entail:)

Thanks again, didn’t mean to write a novel but it kind of all comes back to you even making the video in the first place! It’s nearly impossible to even GIVE AWAY a Win Rig 3 or 4 years later --- but buy your Mac, pay the ‘Apple Tax’ (when in fact buying any laptop in parity with the rMBP options you’ll also find price parity, heck the new MS Book loaded with 512GB core i7 was more than the new rMBP 15” I picked up yesterday @ Best Buy with the core i7/2.8GHz [up to 4.0GHz Quad Core!!!], 16GB of RAM and One Sweet Terabyte of McClaren F-1 storage speed!!! Best Buy now offering the machine in store and online for $300 off, and a hundred off the Apple Care by matching BHPhoto’s pricing!!!

Doesn’t get any better than that if you’re looking to ‘edit some motion’!

Great job again, should take about ten minutes less to do what I’ve got to do (restore the comp) than it did to write my diatribe to ya:)

Merry Christmas

Jer
