Puma FI Self-Lacing Sneakers Hands-On

With the upcoming release of Nike's $350 Adapt BB, self-lacing shoes are set to become more commonplace, and Puma isn't about to let its rival take all the credit. After all, the German company showed off its own self-lacing sneaker, the Autodisc, back in 2015 -- around the same time as Nike's iconic (and ultra rare) Mag before it evolved into the HyperAdapt. The only problem was the Autodisc just wasn't practical enough to enter retail -- it was too expensive, too heavy and could have been more comfortable. But that's about to change with Puma's latest creation, the Fi (pronounced as "F-I" aka "Fit Intelligence").

Recharge your shoes? Pair them to your wireless device? Install an app so you can tie/untie your shoes without touching them? Add a pound of weight? And pay $350 a pair? Talk about creating your own obstacles. Think I'll stick with slip-on technology for now.

It's about time... 30 years ago I saw those in «Back to the future Part 2»

They should make these shoes self rechargeable using the energy created by the movement of our feet.

I could imagine this to be very helpful for people who can't reach down and tie their shoes.

It is just probably one way manufacturer use to increase shoe price and make more profit. How many times do you have to unlace and lace you shoes in a day anyway, at the end of the day you still have to reach the shoes with your hand to remove it off your feet might as well unlace it manually.

Self lacing system for sneakers will bomb no matter what, because generally they are easier to lace & they come with laceless sneakers nowadays.

Put them in high boots if you want to make life easier

There is no resin for them to be three houndred. Ive seen the tech its a small moter with strings running throw it. Im hoping the price drops fast me being in paraplegic and in a wheelchair this would be slick for me since it's hard for me to tie shoes

I'm a former US Olympic short-track competitive speed skater. I just wanted everybody to read this and know that we've had this technology in our training boot since the mid-90s. The cabling can be remarkably strong. The reason I'm leaving this comment is that they have sold these little modules so you can retrofit your boots for years. And they only cost about $35. Keep in mind our boots are no pad carbon fiber and start about 1, 600. (Not including casting and three-dimensional scanning) There is no need for Bluetooth connectivity and a 5-day battery lifespan is completely unacceptable. Ours have lasted up to three months for decades now. And have the ability to be tighten should the battery die.

By comparison regular laces are space-age light material

They look a bit clumpy but i like that they are plain with no huge logos all over them.

I like the ideas of smart shoes lacing its laces by itself n' remembering how tight or how lose for our specific foots. But isnt it just making us more lazy??? And we have to think about the water damaging the motor or battery, having to charge the battery once in a week. Its just still really complex. I think the pull and claps lacing from nike's shields shoes line up are more convenient.

whether it is Nike adapt auto lacing sneakers or Puma Fi , nobody tells us if the mechanism is waterproof or shockproof !! if I'm caught under a heavy rain, shoes will soak water , will the self lacing mechanism still be working ? or during training sessions, like running, jumping, and more ... how long these god damn autolacing shoes last ?

Isn’t creating these self adjusting shoes make more tech waste especially when the shoes will come with a charger for it and tech stuff to the self lacing mechanism?

I had the Shaq Pump shoes that did the same thing back in the 90's. Only it was cool 😎 to pump them up in front of your friends at school.
