So APPRECIATIVE for all you do and for even taking the time to shoot these HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE videos to help all of us. My Southern Appalachia beekeeping buddies and I are grateful! Our only request is that these thumbs down, unhappy morons would come out of their clown closets so we can tell em to " SCREW OFF !!! " Don't fret em bro cause the vast majority of us ♥️ y'all 💯!!! 👍👊

Re-Queening in the fall and letting brood completely hatch out and then hitting the hives with oxalic vapor sure does cure the mite problem. I had counts of 5 to 12% at the high end at some yards. 3 weeks later, o.a. vapor and counts are 0. New young queen introduced that was reared at the beginning of July and now seeing 4 to 5 frames of brood in all stages. (1/2 to 3/4 of the frames full). In northern Alberta, this does work and can winter outdoors with little loss.

Once again another informative video.

Those mites can really sneak up on you and kick you in the ass! What concerns me is if the mites build up a resistance to Apavar, what do we do then??!! I can still hear Randy Oliver saying it's only a matter of time boys! it just shows me that you can never stop learning and inquiring never slow down on your tech support. That also brings up a good point of tech support for Manitoba. People really need to support these types of projects as it could save their operation one day.

I can't stress enough the importance of building a good pest management plan. I'm seeing this first hand in my sideline operation. I could see if I backed off just a little bit on your monitoring this could get away from you very quickly and end up with a big mess and a pile of money down toilet!! Those 300 bees you sacrificed for an alcohol wash is a minimal expense to protect your operation.

Once again thank you for all the work you do and support you give to the Beekeeping community.

You management is second to none
I started in France in the beginning of the 80s
And nothing was compare to your way
I lost all my colonies.
If only YouTube have been ...
Specifically your feeding program.
In the center of France, could be very harsh, on the old massif central
👍👍

Ha ha, boy do I agree with your comment "if you keep getting counts with zero, you start to wonder if it is your methods". I tested my yard and Howard's two with counts of zero mites, questioning myself until i heard that pretty well everyone is getting low to no numbers.

Honey is off here and feeding has begun. My girls already have most of their feed put up for the winter. Thanks for all of your help!!

I had zero luck with Apivar this year in mite kill. Now, I noticed that you pull frames apart to install the strips. Interesting because gives the bees an opportunity to walk around the strips and make a better contact with them.

You can always count on mites. Only in isolated areas (if treated good), counts are low or close to zero.

Great to see low counts and immediate action to control them, clearly this approach is reducing numbers of mites in the area and who knows maybe one day they will be eradicated.

The problem we have in the UK as I see it is...
1. There's high density of population so your yard is never far from someone else.
2.There are many who are treatment free so no matter what I do for my bees they will always end with mites again.

This is made worse by fools selling 'garden hives' to people who think having an unmanaged feral colony in their garden is 'saving bees' when in fact it could be the reverse and a time bomb for varroa and Foul brood.

Keep up the good work 🙂

I really enjoy watching and learning from your videos.  I am curious about the protein patties that you use.  What are your ingredients, or is that a trade secret?  Would it bee possible to make a video making it and packaging it?  I think it would be so cool to learn this part too.  Thanks a lot and take care.   Tim

Great video but have you tried the oxcylic acid paper towel treatment? If you have how did you like it ? I know it takes a little longer but it is supposed to be effective over time.

Ok stupid question time.
How are the strips supposed work?
(shows how lucky we are in Aus to not have mites yet)

No discussion of costs. If it costs more to save a colony than to make extra splits in the spring, then why do it?

Ian, did you use Apivar in the spring also? I recall those were black strip, I think. Thanks!
