Sony 28-70mm f2 GM Review: Over 1lb LIGHTER than Canon

Hey everyone! I am back again today with ANOTHER video, this time I have my hands-on review of the new Sony 28-70mm f2 GM. Can this lens potentially replace all the primes in your camera bag? I have comparison images taken on location of this 28-70 f2 vs the 35mm f1.4 GM and 85mm f1.4 GMII. I also have comparisons throughout of other zoom lenses at similar focal lengths so you can compare the quality. Something else to keep in mind is I have 2x 28-70mm f2 lenses loaned out to me this time, so Dan is filming this entire video on this lens too with the Sony A7sIII. Let me know what you think in the comments! And be sure to check out my A1II review I uploaded earlier as well.

Thanks to Sony Australia for loaning me this lens, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I feel like your lens reviews are the best on YouTube. Mostly because you show it in action and in real world uses. Love your content!

As soon as I can afford it, this will definitely be becoming my wedding-day workhorse lens

Really great lens but would not use because of that 4mm less. That's why I sold the 28-75 Tamron.
Still impressive

Ive come back to this video and im really grateful to you pointing out critical sharpness is not quite there wide open, Im going to be much happier with the 24-70mm 2.8 with the 50mm 1.2 and 85mm 1.4 for bokeh shots.

I was this lens. Right now i have a 18 to 135 3.5 and it's doing me good. But the ability to have 2.0 throughout the entire zoom is phenomenal

Enjoyed this review. Your reviews are super useful and nice to hear you discuss the character. I got my copy and had previously been using the Sigma 28-45mm which I know you love too.
I would love to see a video comparing the two. I found the Sony seems to have less distortion than the Sigma and even than my 35GM which I found seemed to elongate subjects more. I'd be interested to see you comment / compare this - it might just be the in body compensation. I found the Lightroom compensation with the Sigma 28-45mm pretty poor tbh - especially correcting the vignette.

Hey Julia, big fan of your portraits session, was just wondering, how did the temp suddenly totally change at 1:49 when you move from landscape to portrait it got me surprised

it is still pretty sharp when compared with those prime lenses. very hard to differentiate which one is which .

how do you record autofocus screen overlay?

I think it definitely can replace primes during the day! I'd still want primes for night time just as a bit more light coming through.

Sony proved that bigger mounts doesn't make any difference.

Thank you so much! As always, great way to present lenses! My question;, is it worth switching from the 24-70 2.8 GMII - which is my go-to lense currently- but dies not deliver the prome 1.8 atmosphere.

ooof, its so nice and that weight is so much less! I just did a review video on the Canon RF 28-70 f2 and the real only downfall is the weight at about 3lbs 4oz (1474g). lol.

I would have loved it to be 28-85mm f2 or 35-85mm f2. Maybe we’ll see a 24-105mm f2 in the future :)

Every beautiful reality is first a dream…
