All you have to do is ask a question they haven’t been programmed the answer to, and they magically go away. 😂😂😂

My dad sold pharma back in the 80's and 90's. He used to take doctors to dinner and tell them "This has more vitamins in it. Namely, if you use it, i can feed my family." They liked the humor.

OMG, nailed it!!! Drug reps are 1step below used car salesmen and 2 steps below lawyers. I get cornered by 1 or 2 a few times per year. They don't even bring cookies anymore, just their impossibly optimistic canned speech of how wonderful their new drug is.

We aren’t allowed to have drug reps. Keeps us non-biased. I like it that way.

Hospital pharmacy tech here, we love them. They bring us catering, and we don’t have enough clinical knowledge to understand what they’re saying so we just grab food and run away

When I did an internship at a residential addiction rehab they would send the most beautiful, well dressed, charismatic people as drug reps and they always brought a full spread (not measly cookies😜). My personal favorite, an entire Mediterranean buffet. They would then give some slick presentation, sometimes hand out branded merch like coffee mugs, coozies, water bottles, etc... And then the real fun would begin, when the physician's assistant would take apart their drug, the research, the presentation, piece by piece. And the well put-together rep would have to start dodging questions, but the PA wouldn't let them avoid or non-answer the questions. And you could tell that they had stock answers they had to memorize about any possible objections, but he would always make them go past their comfort zone. And we would sit there watching a verbal tennis match, go back and forth, as we stuffed our faces with food😂 Inevitably the PA would wear the reps down and there would be a trickle of sweat on their brow and their fancy suit would be a little soggy from the rest of the hidden flop sweat and they would say they have another appointment and try and hurriedly end the meeting. It was like watching a gladiator match/theater hybrid😂 There was only one female drug rep who survived unscathed. She answered precisely, met his arguments, offered counter-points and when she was out maneuvered, she wrote down what the PA had asked and said, "That's a great question! Let me talk to our doctor about that and get back to you on that." And then she calmly wrapped up the meeting and she thanked the PA for expanding her view of the processes of the medication and for allowing her to improve her knowledge base on the medication with his expert questions (subtly trying to feed his ego). It was a master class. So if you want to know what happens to those women, who do incredibly well in the interview section of those beauty pageants, I am pretty sure most of them become drug reps!!!😂

Our supervisor loves them. They bring a great, healthy lunch, do their spiel, and then he hammers them with questions. Only the best survive, and if they do he takes their info into consideration. Sometimes they really do have an interesting new drug or delivery system, you just gotta know how to weed out the ones that don’t.
(This only works in private practice when lunch-times exist).

As a paralegal at a plaintiffs firm that sues drug manufacturers for failure to warn, this raised my blood pressure

I love the next part, when you read the studies and turns out to be the claims are barely true or completly false, or that there is no significant difference with the current standard of care except for the price. That part its my favourite

I love how the point is the mechanism is the placebo effect.

From a sales perspective, the rep is nailing it

I hate going to the doctor when the drug rep is there. An already late appointment suddenly became much later because the entire staff is in a back room getting free sandwiches and pens.

When they don't answer "So how does it work?", I feel my cortisol begin to rise.

I was a victim of a pharmaceutical rep partnered with a docter that didnt look past the surface level pitch. She said the rep had just come in the day before, then gave me a keychain and 3 weeks of free samples. I started taking them and was seeing a relief of symptoms but slowly started to get paranoia and hallucinations worse than i ever have in my life. I was reaserching psych hospitals to check into and my doctor wouldnt respond to calls or texts. I didnt realize it was the new drug until i was watching tv in a hotel room and a comercial came on for it. At the end of the ad under the listed conditions you should never take this drug if you have was one the doctor had been treating me for for months. I stopped taking it immidiately and got better

I always loved the drug reps. They spoiled the nurses to get to the doctors and fed us well.

I am a receptionist at a cancer clinic. We have to deal with so many drug reps. Many are very polite and patient. But then you get bad apples, like one guy who literally SNUCK BACK to the treatment room to pester our pharmacist while she was working!!

What's bad is doc's that believe an improvement from 1.8% to 1.2% is 36%, while ignoring 5 side effects that make the condition worse.
