NVIDIA's RTX technologies like ray tracing and DLSS have been included into more games but has performance been improved enough? We've spent countless hours actually playing these games so let's take a deep look into ray tracing and DLSS and the framerate sacrifices you make by enabling them.

This is exactly why I skipped the whole 20 series and still rock my 1080Ti. I'm all for ray tracing, but right now it is not worth the money at all.

Metro with RTX is so dark I can't even see the frames drop.

"RTX On, FPS Off" lol I like that one

Ray-tracing will be worth it in the future when the next gen consoles release and then game companies will make games with it.

This is the first Hardware Canucks recommendation/notification I've gotten in like a year.

RTX is like a girlfriend. You think you need it but you're actually better and richer without it.

I find that everything just looks more "wet" the better graphics get

RTX is still a "Tech Demo" to me. The performance hit is just ridiculous. I could tolerate 60 fps in the past but after getting used to 144 fps, I'd just use lower quality settings.

The fact the we have a purely path traced game even running at real time is mind blowing. This is real graphics history being made now.

Studios have gotten so good at "faking it" that RTX is not impressive whatsoever to me. 20 series GPUs came out and I still bought a 1070ti and couldn't be happier.

4:10 RTX on was actually correct. There’s no way you can see the reflection of the screen, since the screen is placed on top of the dest... from that angle all you can see in the reflection is the bottom of the desk, which is correctly rendered with RT. The screen space reflection algo didn’t have the full 3D information and wrongly rendered it on the floor (mountain-lake landscape reflection)
But then again CG is art not physical simulation, correct doesn’t always mean aesthetically good...Even in filmmaking they would put extra lights to fake a certain cinematic effect... humans intuitively aren’t good at predicting how shadow and reflection should look like, and we would simply perceive for example this typical mountain-lake-landscape reflection as prettier, which is why most people dont find RTX or the frame rate drop as worthwhile

"raytracing just works" seems something Todd Howard
would say
