Nvidia RTX 3080 Review: A huge leap for 4K and ray tracing

Nvidia's last generation of cards, like the 2080 and 2080 ti, were undeniably fast, but their promise to deliver high-performance real-time ray traced graphics always felt unfulfilled.

While the cards were undeniably powerful and innovative, they struggled to produce high frame-rates, especially at 4K resolution. The new 3080 feels like the fulfillment of what Nvidia intended, a super powerful card that can deliver great frame-rates, and ray tracing at high resolution. Add in an innovative cooler design and a high-but-not-crazy price of $699, and you've got a seriously impressive GPU.

Isn't this the same guy that said the xbox x would be more powerful than a pc

I’d love to know if they did their testing with the power limit and temp limit lifted a bit. From the footage it looked like they probably kept it at stock and didn’t move those sliders to increase performance.

3090 will not blow this away as we've learned recently, just blow your wallet away.

DLSS actually upscales the games resolution not the textures

On a side note, the cable management for the PC they were using is absolutely egregious.

DLSS actually natively renders the game at a lower resolution. Not just the textures.

4K at 60 fps is ok.. 1080p at 240hz is what I want.

Why does everyone insist that 30-40% is HUGE. its not a leap.

799 is a no brainer for everyone who skipped the last gen? IGN? I think there is something else happening with no brain here

RTX 2000 series cards can run games on the highest settings with RTX enabled and get 60fps that is if you are playing in 1080p, Nvidias mistake was marketing the cards as 4k gaming + ray tracing capable which was ridiculous since only the 2080 super and 2080ti could pull that off but even not perfectly. Resolution to this day is still the single highest performance impact on games as it can account for performance loss but as much as 100% going from 1080p to 4k on non RTX cards will cut your fps in half if not even more.

I couldn't even afford the 20 series now even with the new 30 series and the lower prices I still cant afford it ;(

AMD is announcing their next GPUs at the end of October, so about 40 more days and we will know what they are offering. Not a bad idea to wait if you can.

I cant wait for RTX 3060 when it comes out. If I can afford it
Or a second hand RTX 2080 TI
Or maybe even AMD. Since I hate how buggy my freesync monitor is with Nvidia

I wonder if there was any issue with CPU temps, with the GPU blowing hot air up towards the Air Cooler?

And a huge leap _backwards_ for product launches, well it was ok for bots, scalpers, and tech reviewers I

RTX 3080

CONS:
- Still keeping the 20 series price hike as the new norm
- power PIG
- HOT mess (it will actually be fun to use as a room heater in Winter)
- RTX still unsolved (40% penalty)
- the size! OMG!
- whitewashing the last generation
- a total disaster of a choice going with Samsung s option

PROS:
- Actually a performance increase over the last gen
- very interesting option work wise (if you can keep up with the noise and heat)

So we were delivered the future according to NVDA. Instead of getting more productive and efficient cards, we re still on the same path as before, small increments or we turbo the cards for everything they re worth and end up with portable ovens...
I ll PASS, TYVM.
