iPad Air (2020) Teardown: Long Live Touch ID

We finally made it through the bulk of teardown season, but it looks like something slipped through the cracks. Oh, here it is! It’s that new iPad Air. The 2020 iPad Air has been redesigned to look more like an iPad Pro, with flat edges and smaller bezels. It also comes in some bright new colors, like sky blue and green. But just how much has changed on the inside? There’s only one way to find out and that’s to tear it down.

You should always disconnect the battery before disconnecting the screen on the iPads. If not, it will blow the backlight fuse on the motherboard.

1) Make sure to put on a case with The same adhesive apple uses
2) Make sure to put on a Tempered screen protector with the same adhesive apple uses

Looks like it uses the iPad Pro 3rd Gen chassis, upon the basis that there are empty patches suspiciously close to where the Pro’s extra two speakers are supposed to be. The Air 4 is a very capable device, and is super powerful.

If that black plastic that melted near the TouchID button is indeed thermoformed plastic then that's a fraction of a penny's worth of plastic and would definitely make sense to replace that with the replacement TouchID button

They could have put in lot bigger battery by stacking the motherboard like in iphones or even put those 4 speakers like the pros

would be interesting to know if the components are also serial-numbers locked like on the new iphones and macs. in my eyes then it makes it a repair ability score of *0* !

I recently tore down a 1st generation iPad and it didn't have even half as much glue as this. Except for the battery. That dang battery...
