🐾 In today's video, Dr. Andrew Jones dives into a common concern among dog owners: Is it arthritis or a pinched nerve affecting your furry friend? 🤔 Dr. Jones answers a viewer's critical question about how to differentiate between arthritis and a pinched nerve in dogs. He'll guide you through the signs and symptoms of each condition, demonstrate how he would examine a dog for these issues in his veterinary practice, and show you techniques you can use to assess your dog at home.

This guy is rare. He was brave enough to go against the system to expand healthcare for dogs.

People dismiss a dogs unsteady legs for old age but sometimes it's just sore paws. When a dog has sore paws he wont want you to touch them so you have to be creative. The way I cut my dog's nails is I place a bowl with a little milk (can mix it with some water) in it in front of him, he has to be lying down when drinking. Then I cut one nail. It takes time. You have to repeat the process. Sometimes I only cut four nails a day. It's made a huge difference in his life. He walks with more vigour, he sits and gets up way faster and easily.

I'm literally in tears right now because I thought my dog has degenerative myelopathy, unfortunately at the moment I am so financially strapped that I no way I could take my dog to the vet but knowing that she is not dying from a degenerative disease with your freely given information that she does have something that is more than likely treatable is a huge relief

Thank you for this, Lewis looks just like my boy Blackjack, and he’s 11 now.. he’s been dragging his back leg, and limping a lot, it’s gotten progressively worse within the past couple weeks.. massage seems to be helping quite a bit! 💖

Hi Dr. Jones. We're really grateful for your videos and have watched loads of them for different reasons with our pets. Can you help with a problem we have with our 10 year old Papillon, Alfie? He was diagnosed with IVDD and had an operation to repair 2/3 discs about 3 years ago. He went through recovery but was never the same after the recovery period. He has a weaker left rear leg now and occasionally "knuckles" as per your reflex test in this video - not all of the time - but certainly weaker. Recently, he exhibited a strange behavior by "bowing" just like a dog would when playing - also known as "praying" when their butt is in the air but front is down. However, he stayed like this for a good few minutes but then starting trembling. We took him to our vet and after basic once over, decided that he now has Osteoarthritis in his pelvis and knees. She did not X-ray him. He can walk around o.k. mostly and we are keeping his weight down - appx 5kg but need to drop to about 4.5kg ideally. He tends to stand up more than he ever did and finds getting comfortable quite difficult. He is getting what we think are spasms and then does the "praying" position again and seems to go down hill. He's on Metacam anti-inflammatory drugs and we've been administering Gabapentin as and when we think he might be in real pain but want to know, if these spasms are a sign of pain in the general sense. We've looked into physio for him and possible hydro therapy but he cannot walk more than 5-10 minutes on a dog walk so, am not sure if that's doable when the sessions are 45 mins. We've also noticed that he yawns more when we think he has had an episode. We are torn as to whether it is humane to put him through this degenerative condition at all but want to do what is best for him. Many thanks for your help and do, please keep the videos coming as I tell people about you who then subscribe too! We always look to your page when we want to get the facts and best advice. Take care and thanks again!

Louis ♥ One in a million. Thank you SO much. I also have a "Louis" . He is 10 and never seems to be in pain but his feet drag. He still loves to walk & often looks confused when his rear doesn't respond. I had no idea what was going on but now I do. Bless your heart, Sir. We didn't go to the vet because of Covid. I can't tell you how much you have helped.

Thank you so much for this video. I've just been looking for more information about degenerative myelopathy after my dog was diagnosed with it and came across you. My dog hates going to the vet, and with coronavirus I wasn't able to go in the room with him, so wasn't sure how much/how well they were able examine him. They said he had been difficult to handle, but it seemed that the pain was in his back. After going through your video, it seems the pain is definitely not in the back, but in the hip. Might film my dog's reactions to take with me to a future appointment so they can get a better idea of how to help us. Fantastic video, and very well explained.
