For people curious, what Cory is trying to describe is the origin from the Fleetway Sonic comics.

Sonic was a brown hedgehog who ran really fast on his friend Dr Kintobor’s big hamster wheel to power a machine and it exploded turning Sonic blue and giving him his speed

Kintobor was fused with a rotten egg that was in his fridge and he hatches into Dr Robotnik

Sonic is literally an alien so that automatically makes it a sci fi world. Not even taking account the genetic experments, giant robots, time travel, ancient gods of destruction etc…
