Texas 2 step beginner lesson 1

My Freshman year in High School was the beginning of doing the Texas two-step. The entire crowd would dance around the room in a counter-clock-wise direction. Another important issue is that men knew how to lead. Then, Hollywood released "Urban Cowboy"
Suddenly people were dancing the Cotton-eyed Joe backwards and the men were letting the women lead. The man should go forward most of the time simply because he can see over the woman's shoulder to make sure they don't bump into anyone.

It amazes me to go to dances and see someone think they are John Travolta and that they are cool enough to dance backwards. When they run into me, I want to say, "Why don't you learn how to dance before you get out here?" But that would just start a fight. So, I keep my mouth shut and stay clear of them.

What this video demonstrated is that this guy thinks the quick quick slow slow thing is the Texas Two Step. It's not. It's a hybrid of some ball room dance thing that people brought into the dance halls after people saw Urban Cowboy. Quite frankly, this kid isn't old enough to know how the Texas Two Step was done before the pollution of Urban Cowboy hit the dance halls. Notice he doesn't show how to dance to music with it. That's because if he did, he'd be out of sink with the music even if he was in proper time with it. There is phrasing in music which is why the genuine Texas Two Step works so well.

But I suspect this is why he's teaching at the Festive Dance Club and not at the Community Hall in Robstown, Texas.

That is not how I learned it. It was as in one video. Feet together, step, step. Or as when I learned it. Left, left, Right, Left Left Right. When did it change to this?

Two-step is counted quick quick slow slow.... Or 1 2 3 5... You have downbeats and up Beats... Down up down down... You have heel leads... Heel ball heel heel!
