'The country is enraged': Conservatives slam FBI's Trump raid

Republicans have vented their fury after former US president Donald Trump said the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

CNN reports the investigation is in relation to the handling of presidential documents, including classified documents, that may have been transferred to Florida.

Donald Trump, who was not in Florida at the time of the raid, released a statement about the incident.

"These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents," Mr Trump wrote.

"Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before."

Very few judges have the authority to sign off on a warrant for documents that sensitive. Some of those documents, if they were there, would be classified to a point that the agents wouldn’t be allowed to see them. Something here smells pretty foul.
