Is this the SOLUTION to stop fare evaders? The spikes have only been installed at Manhattan's Lexington Avenue 59th Street Station and it's unclear if the MTA will add more.

I wonder who got the contract for these stainless steel barriers. Follow the money folks..

My favorite American trait is seeing exactly what works everywhere, then deciding to do something completely different. Subways around the world have stopped fair jumpers, but NY is just like "My friend owns a metal fab ship so I'ma siphon millions of tax payer dollars to him in a huge scam.".

It's not money wasting, it's money laundering.

Not only are they useless, but they are the smoothest "spikes" on Earth.

What's really really really funny is in decades of subway service New York officials still haven't figured out what a door is.

i like that the "points' are round and spaced for fingers to fit in between

Sounds like somebody’s friend needed a contract 😮

New York City itself has to stop gouging their residents with all these tunnel charges bridge charges. They should have been paid for a long time ago.

That guy addressing people getting pushed onto tracks is the real one. Install guards on the platforms

So many European countries have resolved this issue by just not having any kind of gates on their metro lines, but instead have numerous ticket inspectors who give out huge fines to anyone without a ticket, we’re talking €300+ and as a result the rates of fare dodging are only about 2-3%

Brilliant engineering. So much money spent trying to beat the challenge of a waist high bar. Someone is pocketing money who shouldn't.

❤ They are not sharp... elevated...and actually make it easier by allowing you to get a higher jump by grabbing the top.

How much of a kickback is the governor getting for the stupid so called barriers that aren't doing nothing

The fact they still have turnstiles is insane. 2025 and they're still using this old ass system. Would have assumed a more sophisticated gate would be in place by now.

"Pointy panels" proceeded to show smooth rounded wave pattern panels. A straight piece of sheet metal is more likely to cut or hurt you than these.

Those don't even look like they hurt to be honest. They look like they just let you get higher up to get over the barrier easier. Just slide your sleeves down or wear mittens

In the subway in Stockholm, Sweden they replaced those -"three revolving bars thing gates" (sorry I don't know the word for it)- turnstiles with doors about 10 years back. The result is just that the people who wants to avoid paying sneaks in behind someone who's paid.

It's so creepy when people get that close to you, right behind your back. I once even saw a guy push a lady that was in front of him, because she didn't walk fast enough for both of them to enter during the short period when the doors are open.
